I'm looking to buy a DVD of either Pilates or Yoga to help me with strength training. Does anyone have any recommendations for either, or indeed any other fitness DVD?

Cheers everyone.

Hi amber, I have got Darcy bussell Pilates , but Pilates isn't my scene , nice relaxing classical music in background though & she knows her stuff . I prefer yoga for dummies I like that , & you can do it from YouTube it's got the full DVD on there for free . Good luck with whatever you choose .

Eckhart Yoga online for me - try out the free resources on the website and on YouTube. There's specific stuff for runners. (I think they do sell a couple of DVDs if that's really what you need... or you can buy downloads)

Hi GoogleMe,

Just had a look at these online Eckhart videos and they're brilliant. Think I'll give them a proper try over the weekend. Thanks for the recommendation.

I'm a huge Jillian Michaels fan. I got her boxed compilation set and her Yoga Meltdown from Amazon. Lots of workouts so good value. Her yoga gets sniffed at by the purists but I like it having never done any yoga before in my life, nor fitness of any description come to that, but I'm loving them. On the 30 day Shred at the moment. One or two on here are doing that. She's the trainer off The Biggest Loser tv programme. I did some of the workouts on the other DVD's but they are a bit heavy on the knees and I found myself aching too much to do my runs! So I switched to level 1 of 30 day Shred and am now on level 3. I am doing 10 days of each level. I am improving fitness wise and my running is improving, which was the object of the exercise. You need a set of 3 lb handweights

Hi Miss Wobble, thanks for the recommendation, it sounds good, I'm a bit like you I don't want it so difficult that it makes me ache too much that I can't run.....but I do need the weight bearing exercises for the upper body....this morning my GP informed me that after a recent bone density scan, at 51 I have been diagnosed with osteoporosis of my lumbar spine! All I can say is bugger! I had a long chat with my GP, and she is a fellow runner, so she was very supportive, I'm good to continue running, in fact she was positively over the moon that I was running....but she did warn me not too train too hard...ie for any half marathons.....so I'm good to try a 10km......in a while!!!!

Ive dwnloaded a yoga on ma phone its good

My Physio recommended I did some yoga and I bought a DVD from amazon by Barbara Benagh called yoga for beginners which I've found quite good. Think I'll take a look at the others that people have recommended to you too.

Yes do some upper body stuff as you need strong arms to help your running, plus it will help your upper body, breathing, the whole shebang! I gave up booze completely because of the problems I was having with my hip. Booze is bad news for the head of your femur! Apparently. I was having pain in my legs, feet and hands. I felt totally rubbish so cleaned up my whole act. Best thing I ever did and now I don't even have a GP! I thought I was looking at a new hip but my hip is absolutely fine now. It just shows what you can do when you put your mind to it. Losing over four stone has helped no end!

I just did my Shred for today!

There is also a website. Yoga2hear. You buy the download and can print the accompanying booklet for free. I like it because once you've looked over the various positions in the booklet you can follow the instructions from you're mp3 or phone which avoids having to get up and down to look at the computer screen when using youtube. Just another option gor u
