Incredibly important. Do not ever skip a rest day.

In fact don't think of them as "rest days" at all. They're "repair days" when you legs heal themselves and get stonger. If you skip your repair days you're on a fastish track to injury.

You can walk, you can do strengthening work, non-impact aerobic stuff. Just no running okay?

Rest days are SACRED! Especially for the new runner! When we run we are causing tiny micro tears in our muscles which are 'repaired' and strengthened on our rest days. You might get away with the odd consecutive days running early in the programme but certainly as it progresses and the runs get longer it isn't wise as you could increase your risk of injury. I think I read somewhere that it takes about two years to get your proper 'running legs' and as someone who graduated three years ago, I think I would agree. Experienced runners do sometimes go on 'run streaks' but they are not for everyone. I think the key is getting to know your own body and most importantly, listening to it! Maybe you could look at some kind of cross training on 'rest' days - cycling and swimming are fine because you are using different sets of muscles. Or you could try working on your core..I know it's not running but it will all help make you a better and stronger runner as you progress.

I am sure there is a link in the pinned posts that is full of lots of information for those starting out. Well worth having a read through. Great that you are enjoying the programme and good luck!🙂

I urge you to read the notes on here which accompany the programme so you know these things. Rest day is leg building day 💪👍😃🏃‍♀️

Rest day is a bit of a misnomer. It just means don't run. Other activities are fine. Running is very high impact so you need to allow your muscles and joints to recuperate. And at this early stage your body is not used to it, rest is so much more important.

Very important! You need time to recover in between. I’ve only just started consecutive days running and I did c25k in February.

It’s torn muscle and out for months important. You only just got here and we’d miss you, so don’t do it.

I am dyslexic so reading isn't one of my strong skills so my apologies for asking direct questions as for me it's easier to read a response than to read through loads of info on the site - you have all been very kind, understanding and supportive so thank you very much for now and for any future posts X X
