Praying for the end

Just got back from running W8R3 my goodness it was hard work couldn’t wait until the end. Why is it that some people get so into the run that they don’t realise they are nearing the end of the run whilst I,on the other hand am praying for the end?

You are not alone - I’m exactly the same as you. I’m praying Sarah Milican speaks to me 🤣. I’m hoping it gets easier the more runs I do! 🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️

Haha. I have never been so acutely aware in all my life of exactly how long a minute is.

Typical end of run for me:

Look at my watch, it says there are 3 minutes left. I run for 2 hours and probably about 18 more miles, look down to see that in actuality only 45 seconds have elapsed.

Every time I read one of those I Ran 8 Minutes Past The End Before I Noticed And Then I Felt So Good I Just Ran 8 More, a little bit of my soul dies.

I can only hope it gets easier over time or I’m destined to endure rather than enjoy.

Good days. Bad days. Slow down 👍🏽

If I go any slower I think I will stop. My walking speed is faster than my running speed. 7.38 or there about

Yep - been there. Often used to ask myself why am I doing this when I'm not enjoying it only enduring it. Used to count backwards in my head for the final minute and stop the very second it finished. But...... since I graduated ( a couple of weeks ago ) I have continued to do 3 , 30 minute runs a week and they are getting "easier" , though I still have a tough bit around the 20 minute mark. I did all my C25K runs on the same track but since graduating I've run at other locations and found that that has helped to distract me. We stayed at my Mum's this week and I ran round her local forest and I can actually finally say I enjoyed it ! Its only taken 11 weeks but I've finally got there.

I have also found that, after graduating, not having the pressure of thinking I must finish this run otherwise I've failed has helped. I often think part way round - I'll only do 20 minutes today - but then get to that point and think - well I've come this far I may as well do the 30 minutes. I have also managed to hit the magic 5K mark and am now working towards doing that in the 30 minutes rather than the 32 minutes I take at the moment.

I will be taking my running gear on holiday next week so have definitely caught the bug !

Keep going - you'll get there too.

I pray for the end most runs, even though I enjoy them... you are certainly not alone. One week to go, that’s amazing, you’re running 28 times longer than the very first interval on day one, that’s a huge achievement. If you want a different experience, try Nike run club’s 30 minute running with headspace guided run for your next one... it’s done in conjunction with the guy behind the best meditation app on the stores, and he talks you through it, relaxing you and making you more aware of everything around you, almost forgetting that you are running. It’s getting rave reviews out there.

I’ve got the Nike app to map my runs I’ll investigate.

Everyone is different 😉 but towards the end of the programme you really rack up the miles and there is a cumulative effect on your muscles. But also, every week is a push for longer and longer runs without any rest. I felt it too, so you aren’t alone, and you can make it! Nearly there! Even a 7:45 km pace will get you around a 5km in a sub-40min time - perfectly respectable and way faster than my for PR 😁👍

Definitely not giving up. I’m a tight northern and I’ve invested too much money in my running shoes to give in now.
