Reading your lovely replies to my post yesterday reminded me about something funny......during the last half of yesterday's run, I was on the home stretch, feeling pretty damn pleased with myself....when this fella comes trotting out of the end of a road to my right, fully clad in running gear and good to go by the looks of him. I thought, 'oooh fellow runner, this hasn't happened to me before.....' he crossed the road in front of me and just as I was simultaneously pleased he hadn't crossed behind me, and thinking it would be nice to be able to keep pace (he looked pro) he just stepped on the gas.....and was gone!! By the time I'd made it to the next bend he was no where in sight!! I mean, how do people do that?!?! I had a little chuckle to myself, and vowed that one day, I'd be able to keep up, if not actually overtake him......no idea who he is, just a chap out for a run....but.....one day.......hahahahaha π

Speedy 'Gone ' zalles!!π
Maybe he just ducked down an alley or threw himself into the nearest garden just to make you think he was rocket-powered π₯
Maybe he was late for a bus? Did one pass you?
That reminds me also that during one of my post graduation runs a female passed me going quite quickly, I manage to follow her at her pace for about 10 seconds, no way could I go at that pace and she disappeared into the distance, never to be seen again, however, later in the run I was aware of another runner behind me, I let HIM pass me and once again tried to go at his pace, surprisingly I managed to keep up with the pace he was running at for about 1 kilometre before my 30 minutes was up, it is always a good idea to follow someone who passes you and see how long you can keep up at that pace.
Yes Almorr, I'd like to be able to keep pace with someone else during a run now....can't believe I just said that! I used to be praying no one else would happen along to show me up! Don't see any usually though......I usually find myself checking out people's running style as I drive places....I'm a running gait stalker!!π€£
Hahahaha. Happens to me a lot! Iβm looking forward to overtaking someone whoβs running some day ........ might be a while! π π
Same as me, I have not been running for about 4 weeks because of a sore hip but thankfully that has now gone and is no longer sore, I hope to restart my running in September. I'll begin with week 1 on a Wednesday, try week 2 on a Saturday, week 3 on a Monday and so on. I did graduate but have not ran a full 5K because of that sore hip, hopefully, sometime in the autumn, I will manage that.
You just reminded me! I passed an elderly gentleman out walking a chihuahua this morning.
We all joke about how we're so slow, we could probably walk faster than we run...But I have to tell you as I approached this gentleman from behind I was silently praying "Oh please let me pass him, oh please let me be slightly faster than this gent shuffling along walking his dog. Oh please let our pace not be equal."
I am happy to report that my jog is officially Quicker Than A Person Walking Who Doesn't Even Know He's In A Race.
Put that on my medal!
Excellent! Especially involving a tiny chihuahua!! π π
I personally try to avoid looking back from where I came when rounding the bottom curve of the giant loop I do on my regular route - because I can just about see tiny dots of runners in the distance, and I know that within a minute or two theyβll be loping past me!
One day, just maybe Iβll stay ahead of them a bit longer! π€
Hi it sometimes seems so easy for others but I guess theyβve put in the miles at the beginning like us. Iβm on my last week also and was overtaken by three ladies pushing pushchairs at saturdays Parkrun, they just seemed to breeze past and good luck to them. Perhaps one day people may see me and think itβs easy but thatβs probably quite a way off yet π
Thanks everyone, for reassuring me that I'm not the only one!! Haha, hey, you never know, it might be us making it look easy one day.........not sure which day...but one day...ππ

Have you noticed whether your speed has increased over the last few weeks? Mine has I get a lot further than I use to and spend time wondering how on earth Iβm going to do the return journey.
Well, I seem to vary my speed, I think overall it's around the same but, I have had to find a further route because I was arriving at my gate before I ran out of minutes! So maybe, I have gotten faster without realising.....hmmm, I'll have to go for a run and actually map it properly.......then do it every time to see if I'm quicker.....oh dear, what an excuse to go for another run!! The other night I did a little potential-running-spot recon at a brightly lit local high school track (I'm trying to plan ahead to when the days are shorter and mornings are pitch black again).
So, while I was only walking and not running, a CHILD just loped past me at speeds I could not comprehend. And the look of this boy. Maybe 12 years old. Completely effortless, no identifiable "running form", just running around a track because it's there and he's a kid and wow. He just flew past me and it seemed effortless.
This is how I run in my dreams! Bounding, feet barely touching ground. I'm a gazelle, ha.
I was right chuffed to overtake a canal boat that was slowly chugging along on Saturday morning. This was a breakthrough really - first time I had overtaken anything that was not completely stationary!
