I began experiencing right knee niggles last 2 runs.....hence figured I should give myself an extra rest day before attempting W8R3.
So, after taking it easy yesterday, I woke up today morning really looking forward to my last run of Week8.
Started off as usual.....concrete legs refusing to co-operate, but coming through after the Toxic 10....and I got through the remaining 18. I attempted a "hill" (okay, a slight incline) during the last 5 mins, which really pushed me as I was quite tired by then.
Knee niggles in both legs now, nothing painful or unbearable - thinking that perhaps those knee support thingies might help going forward? Do I have to wear it all the time or only when I run? Does anyone have any thoughts/similar experiences?
All in all, happy I finished Week8 on a fairly positive note.
We go away on holiday later this week, so fingers crossed I'll "graduate" in a foreign land!!! π±π±π± Eeeeks!! I'm not sure how I got this far.....lol!!!π
Roll on Final Week9......I'm all geared up to smash you in my signature "sedated-snail-hippo-hobble" style!!ππππππ

Well done Hotheels only 3 more runs to go and we will be putting that medal round your neck, look forward to seeing your graduation photo, keep going, rest and hydrate well and look after your knees πͺππΌββοΈπ
Amazing Hotheels! Youβre doing soooo well! And have fun during your graduation week on hols. Youβre sure to find somewhere lovely to run - I did, and really enjoyed the change of scenery!
Take it easy with those knees. Maybe slow down a bit more? But you know your own body so know best!
Have fun, and canβt wait to hear your graduation news in 3 runsβ time!! πββοΈππββοΈ
Never thought I'd be able to get this far tbh....so, I'm excited and nervous at the same time!!
I hope I can find a good running route in my tourist avatar....fingers crossed!!!
Yeah....knees.....going to pick up the support things that KayBee1000 suggested, as I'm not in pain....just some discomfort....and I want to make sure I'm as careful as I can to avoid IC.
I bought a pair of knee supports from Amazon a few weeks in, as an old knee injury started flaring up.
I put it on under my leggings only when running, and it has really helped. I still get the odd niggle now and again, but it was getting to a point that it was hurting all the time and I was having trouble walking, so it definitely helped.
Definitely look after the knees - no heroics, OK??? You can take a week off after week 9. I had to nurse mine through the last 3 weeks and theyβre now fine, because I was super-careful. Good luck and look forward to your graduation post ππ
Go girl! Enjoy your hols and go steady with that knee. It wonβt hurt to give yourself an extra days rest in between. Slow but sure is the key. Good luck x
It will be interesting to see how I cope with integrating my running in a holiday......I've only run outdoors to date - so I've no idea whether treadmill running will appeal. I'm also anxious about finding a suitable running route......so, will have to play it by ear and see how I get on....while being extra careful with the old knees....lol!!!
I had trouble in early weeks with ankles so someone recommended gait analysis. I had this at Runnerβs Needs where I found my gait was neutral but my shoes did not offer enough support or cushioning even though they were running shoes. I bought new ASICS shoes to meet the needs and now life is much easier and less pain.
The gait analysis is free and I would certainly recommend it to anyone experiencing ankle, heel or knee pain. Iβm sure there are other places to get it done too but this was my local.
Thank you!!! I had gait analysis done early on after Week 1 and invested in a pair of Asics.......as I suffered from horrible arch pain. I also was advised to use arch support inserts which made a massive difference and I've never looked back since.
I've never had any knee problems and this niggling pain only started about a week ago.....not unbearable but noticeable.
I'm going to use knee supports and see if this helps.
Lol......I'm just growing old, methinks!!!π€£π€£ππ
Hi Hotheels, I found the early weeks a bit hard on the knees but moved onto the treadmill and it was softer. My knees then built up some strength until I went out again. So you may find it easier on holiday. Have you bought new running shoes from a good shop, because the soles should take a lot of the impact?
Yes, new Asics at the back of a gait analysis bought after Week 1 and arch support inserts made a positive difference to my running experience.
This knee niggle is new....but you have a point. The holiday treadmill running might give my knees an easier time......hadn't thought of that, so it's something I will try!!!π
