Heavy rain & hills? Don’t mind if I do!

💦💦💦Today is the first time we’ve had serious rain in months and my run was due, so off I went. I had a lovely new pair of Ron Hill leggings to try out and they’ve been sitting in my drawer for weeks, so this seemed the perfect opportunity.💦💦💦

I didn’t wrap up too much so I was freezing for my five minute walk but I persevered and got into my stride. As I’m going to be in the Welsh mountains from tomorrow I thought I’d better try a new route with some more serious gradients (not too serious mind!).

As it was miserable weather I took the route by the park and along the river as I knew it would be a lot quieter than usual. The rain certainly dampened everyone’s spirits but it really helped me run better than I have in weeks - all that hot, humidity does wonders when it stops! I took the left hand turn onto the footpath that ran parallel to a fast road and uphill I went! Huff & puff but I did it, then I carried on along another busy road going uphill and I did that as well! I was so chuffed with myself that I carried on for another 1.5 miles snaking in and out of a housing estate.

So, I got home feeling damp but much warmer than when I started and with a smug feeling of satisfaction in conquering my first ‘hills’... Not exactly Snowdonia, or Welsh weather but it’s a start! The other ‘Hills’, my Ron Hills, did a fab job of keeping the rain out, so I might have to invest in another pair for the winter.

The only downer of the whole run was that my phone decided to conk out along the riverbank so Strava didn’t record it properly and my Fitbit didn’t record the timings properly either as starting up Run mode part way through seemed to confuse it 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️. I know I did it, that’s then main thing but I also know that (due to the hills) it probably wasn’t quite a 30 min 5k just yet...😁🦆🦆🦆😁

Lol! I think it’s worse walking in it than running in it, just have to be careful of slipping. After all that heat it was quite a relief tbh.
