First run & aching!

Hi, Iv started my C25k on Wednesday and today I am aching like mad, I’m hoping to do my second run in the morning but worried I might hurt myself? Shall I do my run and hopefully I survive and can rest over the weekend or shall I wait? Thanks!

I posted virtually the same thing yesterday and got up this morning with two options...postpone or push on...I went out following the advice that if I didn't manage the distance I could simply do it again. Great safety net that motivated me. Once I started I went on ti finish and my aches are still there bug not nearly as severe. Good luck...

You’re gonna get aches... those legs not worked so hard in a long time... you gotta keep them working though. Soon they’ll be ready to go and your mind will have to say “rest day” to them. You did run 1... that’s a killer, couch to running in one day... run 2 has you already through that mental block. All you have to do tomorrow is believe in yourself, relax as you warm up and repeat yesterday. It’s time to start amazing yourself and being your own hero... you can do this.

You have another night's sleep before the next run, and sleep is the best healer of aches and pains. Always wait until the actual day of a run before worrying about niggles. And don’t forget that even if you still have some stiffness on the day, your 5 minute warm-up walk will often see it off. Good luck!

Totally agree Mike! That 5 min walk warmup will tell you everything you need to know about what is possible that day 😁👍

You will get aches and pains.... that is fairly normal for the beginning of the programme. Warm up well and stretch after every single run...take it steady and slow.... and you will get stronger with every single run.

Keep moving and maybe, as many of us have done... try some Strength and Flex exercises on your rest days.

All good advice from others, I've just finished week 3 and have had the aches similar to you but believe me it does get easier and I'm now starting to enjoy it.

Just completed my first week. Followed the programme, but also took on board the valued advice from the community, it was invaluable. I make sure l do cool down exercises even after completing my last walk. Keep up the good work👍🏻
