Week 3 run 1 .......Couldn't rest a day this time. NEEDED to run today. And I feel so much better for it.

Ok I think I'm getting addicted. Can't believe it's only week 3 and effectively 7 runs but I'm so into this I can't explain. It must be the endorphins released that are making me feel great after each run.

I really can't wait til I'm running longer .....so glad I started this and love having Sarah Millican as my coach x

Just be careful skipping rest days, not only do you run more risk of a muscle injury, you don’t benefit from the extra building work your body does to those muscles, so it could bite you on the backside if you keep skipping rests. This plan is gonna do its best to get you though in 9 weeks, don’t over stress your legs, especially in the early weeks.

Good job getting to week 3 though.

No I won't skip them if I can help it. I just was feeling super stressed today and so felt so wound up tight that I needed something to shake me up. It did the trick and it felt good to be really feeling "the burn" I suppose. The 90 secs were tough last week but not exhausting but the 3 mins were really hard. .... but I felt brilliant for not stopping.

A thing I've noticed is I'm not getting achey or sore muscles as such just tired legs. I do have an underlying fitness but it's been dormant for a long while.

Underlying fitness is good, your brain shouldn’t hit “the wall” and not should the liver or digestive system... your legs still could if not properly conditioned for running. It’s all about glycogen storage and we start off not very good at that. If you play fast sports, you’ll likely have fast twitch fibres, but what you need for distance running is slow twitch ones... they will come in time.

As an extreme example Usain Bolt as he crossed the line for Olympic gold was unable to run 5k. He too would have to follow a plan, not too dissimilar to this one as he’s probably not been allowed to run for more than a minute ever to get him to his finish line.

Use that underlying fitness to build up the stamina and the core strength on the rest days:)

You need a day off in between runs! You’ll get told off by admins!

Well done but let that be your last consecutive run until you’ve been running for 6 months or more! 👌🏽

It sounds like you are loving the programme.Well done you 👏👏. I understand how you feel. I sometimes struggle to have a rest day and just want to crack on with the programme.

Carry on struggling...hidden injuries are just that ..hidden :) And, there is so much other exercise fr those rest days :)

You must take the rest day! It is part of the programme. Your body needs the day to repair between runs. All the programme guidance says the rest day is non negotiable.

Could you do a different activity inbetween runs? Swim? Cycle? Walk? Strengthening? Just don't run two days on the trot. However good you feel. Read the guidance at the bottom of the page!! 😃

Don't skip rest days... do other non impact and stamina and strength exercise.... the rest days are really non negotiable...however you feel :)

I love your comment ave feel exactly the same way, can't wait to have that ability back! It's great to have started this with such great weather so or fitness levels will be that much better when tougher weather comes in!
