Hi, after R2W1 my partner was quite exhausted, possibly due to the heat, and didn't feel good for a couple of days, we then had a weeks holiday, did a lot of walking etc., but no running. On our return we did R3W1 and she managed it quite well. Determined to carry on we started R1W2, and after only a few steps into the first run I felt a "twinge" in my right lower leg, I thought it might wear off and wanted to encourage my partner with the run as it's something she has never done. We completed the run and I have to say I was proud of her as she coped very well, however, my leg was worse! That was Friday evening and it is still not right, although getting better. I researched it and the only thing I can find is possibly damage to the Soleus, the pain is halfway up the leg on the righthand side more to the front but also at the back. Anyone any ideas, and how long should I rest it as I am eager to continue, both for myself and my partner? May I also add, I find it difficult to "jog" especially very slowly, I prefer to 'run' with longer strides, again, any help would be appreciated.

Hi, I saw no-one had yet commented - bit risky to give advice over the internet so if you are worried, by far the best thing is to get checked out. Oh and obligatory warning to never run through pain. Sounds hopeful that you say it's getting better?

Longer strides, if your foot falls ahead of your body, seem to be associated with things like shin splints so do be careful.

While you wait for your leg to heal up can you acconpany your by walking with them running perhaps in a loop so they come back to you? You sound wonderfully supportive :)

Hi, thanks for the reply, I know I should have known better Than to carry on but I wanted to support and encourage my partner, however, a week down the line it seems be "almost healed" so I may give It a try tomorrow, but any sign of grief I will stop, will keep you informed.

I have to repeat how lovely and supportive you sound! Also sounds hopeful that your leg's nearly 'up and running' again. Good luck to both you and your partner!

Said I would keep informed, thought about a run on Friday afternoon, but to be sure, decided against it. Instead we decided on a walk along the Trent bank flood defence for 30 minutes thinking there would be a breeze along there as usual. Only ten minutes in my partner decided it was too hot, and not easy to breath so we turned back. We stopped for water, and as I set off again I felt a spasm in my Right calf!! and then struggled back to the car. Can't understand it, we had done shopping in the morning and walked at least a mile and a half with absolutely no pain apart from the occasional twinge in the lower part of the Soleus or maybe the plantaris,(previous injury) we don't hang about, but maybe a little more cautious. So more rest I suppose, but frustrated!

Foam roller or massage or similar could help, but hope it gets better! Otherwise - consult the pros :)

Lots of people understand your frustration and have come back from the IC (injury couch) so take heart.

I purchased a foam roller last week and my calf feels great - highly recommend 👍🏻
