Just a quick question. What tracking apps do you all use? I've tried s couple but not found one for me just yet. One said I went 16K per run on week one. Yeah nah, that would be 30K's an hour. The one I used today was alright but I'm after something that shows where you ran and walked. Thank you
Tracking apps: Just a quick question. What... - Couch to 5K
Tracking apps
Map my run by under armour is the one I use. Tracks location and distance as well as pace, and you can add pictures to keep a record of your run!
Strava shows splits.
Which ones have you tried? I use Strava too
I've tried most of them and none of them work for me - I think it's the terrain getting in the way of the signals. I run dead straight along the path but the GPS trace shows me zigzagging - it doubles the distance that I've run. Would a watch work better?
I use data from my Fitbit Charge 2, which connects with the GPS in my phone. Fitbit then feeds that data into Strava and Endomondo. Of course, it is perfectly possible to use either Strava or Endomondo, or both, as standalone phone apps without a Fitbit, Garmin or other such device.
Both Strava and Endomondo give you pace graphs, and you can see from those where you ran and where you walked within a single session. I wanted to attach a snapshot of my W1R1 graph to illustrate this, but unfortunately there seems no way to include an image in a reply.
I like the segment feature in Strava. Basically you can define little bits of a running route, as long or short as you like, or use segments defined by others. You can then see your results for that segment over time and compare them to other people if you want, either everyone, or people in the same age group, or of similar weight, or people in the same club/Parkrun as you if you belong to any such group. You can also set yourself a challenge to try and complete a segment more quickly than previously. It's nice to have a segment near the end of a route to motivate you to become capable of a final push rather than to start flaking out when you see the finish as I tend to do.
On the other hand, while Strava does record activity that you label as walk rather than as run, it counts it as "other activities" and provides less information about it, e.g. you can't have segments. If you want full information, you have to label a walking session as a "run", which then messes up your overall running data.
Since I like to go for walks as well as doing running sessions, I also use Endomondo, because it provides full information for both, regardless of the label you give. If I wasn't for the segments and also the fact I seem to have more friends on Strava and we all give each other "kudos", which is nice, I think I would prefer Endomondo overall. I also like to see the running total of how many hamburgers I've burned and how far I am in going around the world and to the Moon which Endomondo gives for fun
I use Polar Beat. I have a Polar Loop activity tracker and a HR monitor, none of which are needed to track with Polar Beat. You can replay your activity on the map and it will show you the pace (and HR info if you have it) as you move over your recorded activity.
I am happy with it, combined with Polar Flow for other training planning.
Thank you all. I'll take a look at those apps and see how I go.
