Too busy to run how do I catch up?

I did my w2r2 last Friday but with family comittments and work I can’t see how I can get to run until next Monday -a gap of 8 days. I think my options are

1- ignore the gap a do w2r3

2- restart w2

3 something else!

What have others done in this situation?

it isn't going to make a tremendous difference this early in the programme but you do need to be able to run 3 times a week for the programme to work. Can you not get up an hour earlier and run before the day starts? That is the usual solution to time constraints.

I don’t think it matters if you run three times a week or not? Granted 8 days is quite a big gap but as long as it’s not bigger than 2 weeks you should be okay?

Some people take 2-3 rest days between each run so won’t be running three times a week. As long as you just run the runs in order you should be okay.

But I agree about getting up a bit earlier or running as late as possible - much cooler and nicer to run in too.

After your 8 day gap I’d just carry on and do w2r3, it’s after 14 days that you might start to lose a bit of fitness and have to go backwards. Before that and should be able to maintain the fitness that you had.

People do have lives and that’s okay. It isn’t a strict programme that says you have to run at a certain time on certain days. You take it at your own pace and do what you think you can manage. If you try and new run and it doesn’t quite work out then that’s okay, it’s a practice run. Just try it again next time.

It doesn’t matter if you don’t complete the programme in 9 weeks or not, I’ve seen people take much much longer.

Just fit it in when you can and you’ll be fine :)

Having the occasional longer gap n your trainig is not going to have detrimental effect but for physical adaptation to take place you do need to be repeating exercie every 3rd day on average. If you took 8 days betwee every run you would not achieve the adaptations required. If you only go to the gym once week you are never going to get stronger. If you are only in calorie deficit one day a week you are never going to get leaner. For progressive overload to work, you can take 2 days between exercise, but should never take 3 (barring external circumstances that overrule exercise).

Yeah fair enough :)

Have a go at R3 and see how it goes. What's the worst that can happen? Don't go backwards unless you absolutely have to... :-)

I’d give carrying on a try Makka! See how you go! You’ll probably find that you can do it. At some point we may have gaps but not worry too much about it. Hopefully it will just become what we do in time, so you’ll find your way. ❤️

Thanks for all your comments - so after listening to them all the plan I have settled on is to get up early on Friday and do the w2r3.

It’s going to be interesting as I’ll be coming off the back of a 4:30am start on Thursday morning and a probable 18hr working day 😂

Loving the running though 👍
