Week 9 - lost groove

So after a successful w9r1 on Monday, r2 on Thursday was a disaster and I haven't attempted it again since. I was hoping to graduate in June but am now aiming for the coming week. My pale, Irish complexion is currently struggling to do anything other than sit in this heat, so I'm currently torn about having a go at about 10pm tonight or an early start tomorrow before the heat cranks up. How is everyone else struggling through the heat? Kicks up the backside most welcome to get me to the podium!

The heat is a bit of a killer. I've just completed W5R3 in the midday sun, very tough going. Last week I went out after the England - Belgium match, around 9pm and it was perfect running weather. Keep it up, you're so close!

Thank you! I don't think I could handle middle of the day heat, I'm built for overcast summers of around 17degrees. We hit 26 here yesterday!

Whichever suits your mindset. Do be careful in the heat though. I was out cycling yesterday from 1pm till 8pm and paid for it in the night and today.

Go early or late but do go as you know you're almost there!! 👍😉

I was tempted to hit the lovely cool aircon in the gym but I've done the whole programme outside so it just doesn't feel right to finish it indoors. I might move inside post graduation untill this heat breaks

The heat has been challenging and your sensible to look after yourself, my colleague is a dermatology nurse specialist and its ingrained in me to slap factor 50 on myself pre run , she scowls at anyone sun burnt 😬 morning or evening just enjoy x

I wear spf 30 on my face all year round and I've been a sun cream covered mess all week. Have you ever sweated sun cream into your eyes? Gosh it stings! I'll have my trusty naff sweat band on at all times for the foreseeable future 😉

I didn't actually wear any which is a bad idea. It's horrible stuff and I have had it in my eyes before. Nasty. I should definitely start putting it on though.

Do you know why Thursday was a disaster? You don’t have to say 😉 but so long as you understand, then you can avoid it next time. I am an up-at-6am person so I prefer mornings. But my run partner works so we tend to do evenings and I have to plan. I’ll have a slightly bigger lunch and a handful of something at teatime and then go out 9pm late. Plan the day and you’ll be more likely to do it, having made the effort.

I think it was just pure overheating even though it was 6am. I got to 17mins and just couldn't run anymore. Evenings work better for me as it just feels less rushed when I'm not in a panic to get back and ready for work. It seems a tiny bit cooler outside today and there's a bit of a breeze. Might aim for around 8pm and then I can have dinner when back so it's not too late

My W9R2 was deathly but R3 was bliss. Some bad runs happen.

I’m only coping with the heat by avoiding it. Early morning runs for me.

I'll have to repeat run 2 as I wasn't even close to finishing but on 2 more runs to go! I've got some fancy new running gear from a friend as a belated birthday present so that should be enough to shoo me out the door later

You can definitely do this, but make sure you’re hydrating throughout the day. Can you find somewhere shady to run. (I miscalculated yesterday and what was usual a shady route for me , a morning runner, was totally sundrenched at 6pm when I ran. As I result I couldn’t finish my run).

And don’t forget to slow your pace right down..

Get back out there and complete it. Can’t give up now, so close.

Just back! It wasn't pretty, not a great run but equally not a terrible one. Legs felt heavy but 5mins in I knew I could do it. Changed my route and I think that helped a lot with shade and a change of scenery. Thanks everyone for your help, suggestions and motivation!
