Treadmill vs Real Life

Hi, I’m currently working through week 1 and because it’s so warm I decided to go to the gym to run on the treadmill as it’s nice and cool there!

Is there any difference with running indoors to outdoors that I should take in to consideration or know about? Thanks x

Hi, well done on embarking on your new adventure. I completed all of the plan on my treadmill at home as I didn't have enough confidence to venture out but I was always conscious that the 2 would be very different. I have now ran outdoors three times since graduation and I was very sore the day after as it was very different being on natural terrain. But I saw this as a good thing, that my body had become so used to the treadmill so needed to shake it up a bit. I still run on the treadmill when its too hot outdoors.

Both is great. At the end of the day you are moving.

Good luck x

Have you read the guide to the plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5... which is full of tips.

Treadmills are just different and you don't have to concur with my belief that they are a devilish contraption...........always set the treadmill to at least one degree gradient.

Hi, I’ve used a treadmill as we’re lucky enough to have a small gym at work, but I must admit I prefer to run outside if I can 🏃‍♂️ That might well change later though as we go into Autumn and -heaven forbid - Winter! 😱

I guess it just depends on you and what you feel confident with. Whatever you do, and however you run, you’re running which is the whole point of this wonderful programme. 😀 Just keep going with it, and enjoy the journey 😊

Hey, I’m on W3R1 I’m really enjoying it. Ive had a treadmill for a while now at home and can only manage brisk walks. I just cant get into running on the treadmill at all. But like David_G says as long as your running keep with it :) xx

Thanks everyone. I like that the treadmill is consistent so I can set my pace a little better and seems to be friendlier on my joints but I like the running outdoors too and the feelining like you are actually going somewhere!

I think I’ll mix up the two and treadmill when it’s roasting and outdoors when it’s cooler.

Thanks for the advice... it’s a great community and programme (what I’ve done so far 😊)

Hi, I've just started and have literally never run. I even refuse to run for a bus, which is silly I know. I had the exact same question as I have only used a treadmill for my first two runs and I worry it'll be harder outside. How have you found the difference two weeks on from this post?
