Hi all. Great to see this community is buzzing with positivity.
I decided to take the dive into the C25K program due to a bit of a health scare last week and I really want to be healthier for my 8 month old daughter who is on the verge of being mobile so will need t9 be chasing round after her.
Anyway, I was so fired up for this over the weekend and this morning. Went out the door, fired up some acid house in the headphones and had Sarah Millican tell me what to do so off I went. It could be the hot weather, maybe even that I had a few drinks yesterday for the football (last drinks for me now until Christmas - I'm giving it up now) but truth is it's because I'm mega unfit!! I got to the 4th "run" and hit the dreaded wall. I tried my hardest to push through but my body just wouldn't allow it. Shins aching, gasping for breath and even a crippling stitch. So I just had walk the rest of the session with the exception of a 30 second final push run on the last running bit. Now getting back I feel pretty deflated if I'm honest. I was so pumped for it but if I can't even do the first session, how am I gonna do the 5k in 9 weeks?? So, it was not completed fully, is this a partial success or partial failure?

If you want to do this, then you will. It might take longer than 9 weeks and you may not run 5k in 30 minutes at graduation, but you will be well on the way.
You are going to get a lot of replies all saying the same thing. You need to slow down. When you think you are going the slowest you can go, slow down a bit more. I was a right mess after W1R1. Got lots of advice on here and w1r2 was much better. I knew straightway that I'd be able to complete it.
Slow and steady, and relax. You'll get there, you might even enjoy it.... I completed week 4 this morning and I'm hooked. Good luck.

Let's take this back to basics, okay? First off (and you'll get sick of people saying this and then you'll say the same thing in a few weeks) SLOW IT DOWN!!
If you're panting and knackered and getting stitches, that's just your body going AAAGH!! Be nice to your body for a bit. Be nice to you for a bit.
Think of the slowest snail you can imagine. And think of waving to it as it speeds past you. And smile and be happy.
You went out there. You had a practice. You've learnt something. Not "I can't do this, it's too hard", but "I can do this, I just need to start a lot more slowly."
That's fantastic learning.
Now have a day off. Drink plenty of water. Forget the puffing and panting. When you go out next time take is slow. And slower. And then slow down some more.
You can and will do this. One little step at a time. One slow step at a time.
Take all the advice you can get and it will help you on your journey! The people are great and their advice will be a comfort especially when you realise you are not alone and better still you are not the only who has struggled or is struggling! Take it one day at a time and remember to slow down! Well done for taking that first step and welcome to the club! We can do this!
It's 100% a partial success. You committed to yourself to do this... ok you set out too fast and made it harder but you got out that door and off the couch, which is the hardest step.
Have a day off, then start again. Slow and steady wins this race every time 👍😁
Great! Thanks so much all. After a couple of hours since the run and enjoying the waves of endorphins, it's made me feel a lot more positive.
To be honest, I though I was doing a slow/light you on the runs but I will focus on slowing down the pace even more until I feel ready to pick it up again which I'm hoping will be the case!
