Just completed week one and I'm wondering if I can get back to racing fitness. I used to run anything from 5k to marathon and I only stopped due to a calf injury whilst playing football 10 years ago. I've tried several come backs but the injury has always come back. I decided to try the C25K program in a hope that I will take it easy and not trigger the injury again. I'm finding it hard to rest as I used to run most days of the week, but I think rest days are just as important as running days. I am 60 years old and currently over weight
I'd like to hear your thoughts ?.
Regards
Andy

In addition to rest days, as you progress beyond the program you may find it useful to have weeks where you step back your efforts and reduce your mileage rather than always building distance. I have found this to work quite well for me. I also incorporate a lot of running and walking intervals into my long runs. I go pretty close to the same speed as if I was straight running, and it gives your joints a break. Jeff Galloway is one of the promoters of that form.
Also, if you hurt yourself running, take the proper time off. It's so hard to do, but better to have a couple months off for injury and have to rebuild your capacity, than to render yourself incapable of running for the long term.
