On W7r2 this morning and was happily hitting my pace at 14 minutes when a man WALKED past me 😳 apart from feeling embarrassed and fed up I changed course and jogged off in another direction! Help

Not doing it wrong. You are running at the pace you are comfortable for this duration. I was running along a road recently with a pedestrian ahead of me, walking with purpose, and he slowly got further and further away.

Don’t worry about it, I’ve had walkers overtake me but not bothered 🤪😜

It’s not just you! There was an elderly chap in the park this morning and he was walking fast almost breaking into a jog and I was plodding behind him I couldn’t pass him 🤣🤣🤣

It happened to me and it was my neighbour. It was week 3 I think. We laugh about it now. I'm slightly faster now but only just. 🐌🐌🐌🐌

I had someone laugh at me for (I'm assuming) how slow I was going. Just in case I was mistaken, I jogged past her on the way back home where she laughed and pointed. I just mentally think "she doesn't know if I'm going 1 mile or 21 miles." And I'm going a lot quicker than I was when I rolled over in bed and went back to sleep!

Gosh how rude! Probably jealous! 😊

There are idiots in the world, Hannah. We can't change them. But we can change ourselves and that's what you're doing. You carry right on, hon xx

How rude and ignorant- she’s embarrassing herself. Ignore her and enjoy your running. Xx

Hah it took me about 10 minutes to pass a teenage girl dawdling to school whilst chatting on her mobile a few weeks ago. AND I got lapped by a homeless person who just got up off the park bench and ran round the park twice, passing me on the way.I did feel like telling him I’d already been running for 29 mins before I got to the park but I resisted..😕

Just run... ignore everyone else... :)

Running and walking are physically very different things. So it's entirely possible that someone walking fast can be faster than someone running slowly. But the runner is getting more benefit. And that's you. Don't stress, don't try and make yourself go faster. Find a pace that comfortable for you and stick with it. At the end of day we'll show these so-called "walkers" who's boss!! We have a podium too. They don't :-)

Their are some people on here - I’m not one of them, but there are several - who will tell you that their sustainable running speed is slower than THEIR OWN walking speed, never mind anyone else’s. It doesn’t bother them and it needn’t bother you. As long as it’s a running action not a walking action then you are getting the benefit of the programme. Remember it’s not really couch to 5k: the aim after 9 weeks is to run continuously for 30 minutes three times a week. Then

Most people seem to advice just consolidate that by repeating week 9 for three more weeks. When you’ve done that THEN you will be in a position to look at programmes to increase your speed or lengthen the duration of your runs, whichever you want to do. But one thing at a time, first build the capacity to run continuously for 30 minutes and don’t focus on speed yet.

Your not doing anything wrong and have nothing to feel embarased about.

We all have different paces and as others have said it is possible for someone walking quickly to be faster than someone who is running slowly.

I think we've all had the odd gremlins in our heads worrying about speed and what others think of us, but at the end of the day why should we care.

We're doing something positive and will benefit from this.

Keep doing exactly what your doing and be proud, you deserve it.😀

He had extra long legs!

Nothing wrong at all, slow running is good for us. 😃

I only really improved my pace in the last 2 weeks. In the earlier weeks when I worked out my splits I knew I was walking as fast if not faster than I could run. But I had to run that slow to sustain it for longer which I had never understood or managed to do before. Once I realised that I wasn't bothered anymore. And the pace comes once you have got used to running for longer times I think. Having said that I am still captain slow!

I posted in week 4 that my 13 year old son came with me, ran in front, turned around then started jogging backwards shouting 'come on mum, you can do this!' .... 🤣

Well done the young one - gotta love them with their encouragement. I’ve got a 16 yr old son who told me the other day how proud he is of me too. We are meant to be their role models so that keeps me going 👍🏻
