I did W2R2 on Sunday in gait assessed new running shoes. My legs were sore by the end and I was hobbling later that night 😬😞I've got arthritis in left knee but pain wasn't in the knee but rather on inner aspects below both knees - the top of tibia bones were sore to touch like the pain of a bruise when pressed. It's now subsided considerably so that I was able to take part in yoga class tonight but I'm feeling nervous about next run tomorrow 🏃🏼♀️
Pain!: I did W2R2 on Sunday in gait assessed new... - Couch to 5K
Pain!
Did you break them in a tad by wearing them around the house.. ? Wear them inside if you can, to get used to them
Try these exercises too..they will help..
nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/k...
When you head out.. slow and steady and try to land lightly. I call it, kissing the ground with your feet it works
Let us know how you go please?
Are you stretching before and after the run? I had really bad leg pain after the first week And since I started doing stetches I haven’t felt as much pain at all.
Don't ever stretch before a run. The warm up walk will do all you need before a run. Stretching can cause injury if not done properly.
Sorry that thread does not say that at all.
All it has is one commentir suggesting recent research suggests it may not help. With the rest commenting that dynamic stretching or specific excersises (I.e. as part of your walk) can help.
So your response of ‘don’t ever stretch’ seems both misleading and unhelpful.
Stretching may be done before a run...some runners do..some not..but stretching before a run , if it is done... should always be dynamic stretching..please check out the FAQ post..How to run C25K.. pinned by IannodaTruffe
I bought running shoes with orthotics after having gait analysis done when I got to week 5. I’m a superstitious kinda person and didn’t wear them other than around the house until after I graduated. Went out on my first run in them yesterday and within 2 mins of starting running my toes on my left foot were numb and I had a blister on my heel. I had to abort the run and hobble home. Needless to say the new shoes have been relegated to the back of the cupboard and I will be out running in my old faithfuls on Wednesday. Hope you have a pain free run tomorrow x
It does sound rather like these shoes are too small. Did you buy them at the time of the gait analysis and took guidance on the fit? If so take them back.
Most runners need running shoes at least a size bigger than their normal shoes as feet swell when they get warm, so the longer you run the more likely you need bigger than your normal shoes. As the weather here is also warm currently its really important to have shoes that have room for expansion. My trail shoes are two sizes bigger than my civvy shoes.
These are a size bigger than I normally buy. Originally bought my normal size but after wearing round house realised they were too small and changed them at the shop. The bigger ones seemed fine round the house but not so when I got out running. I run first thing in a morning (6.30am) so don’t think it wasn’t the heat affecting my feet. 😩
Thanks everyone. Knees still sore but took things slower and finished. Got back about an hour ago and post shower the knees don't feel too bad 😊at all. Going to wear running shoes as suggested Oldfloss
Can I ask where you had your gait analysis done?
So here I am two weeks later! No further forward as waited for knee pain to go completely. Was in so much pain with knees that I didn't want to try again and my hubby didn't want me to either as he's worried about permanent damage. He's very supportive but not for the whole C25k. Ive been pain free for about 4 days now and earlier today swam a mile and all is good 😊 I was bitterly disappointed to have to stop C25k and despite everything want to try again. Any comments or advice welcomed xxx
Knee could hurt through many reasons. Sometimes it's the shoes, sometimes you try and go faster than you should, sometimes your stride is long and you're hitting the ground too hard, sometimes it's the lack of proper rest. I did all that and got hurt in a bad way.
With knees you don't experiment. If the pain is prolonged you need to see either a physio or an osteopath (or both, in my case) in order to verify what's going on. Try and ease yourself into the run tomorrow, go slowly and not for too long. If you start feeling the same symptom, google the best specialist in your area and pay what they ask!
Don't be upset, anything can be fixed and will heal. I pushed myself over and beyond, should have known better, and if they've put my knee back together then everything is possible. Good luck!
Whatever you do now, don't do fast, you're not a pro. Once you get to interval training and 5K consolidation, go faster if that's your thing, but not while you are still building it all up. Sure path to injuries!
