So after graduating I've been running 3 times a week, not always 5k, but at least 4 and always 5 at my Saturday Parkrun. Some time ago before graduating it seemed like a good idea to enter a proper 5k timed race. It seemed like a good idea until I woke up yesterday to get dressed for it!!! I was going alone and had no clue what to expect. Pinned my bib with its timing chip in it on my chest and waited with the crowd at the main stage. Did a little warm up and headed to the start line with the 800 other entrants.
And that was when the nerves disappeared! The group mentality took over and away I went!!
Not to say it was an easy course, a few hills and some points I thought I can't do this. But there was something about running with all those people I loved. I usually do a park run, but this was different!
Ran through the finish line in 309th position, with a respectable time. But was more cuffed that out off 800, I came 309th πππππ
As they handed me my t-shirt, medal, goodie bag and ice lolly and the crowd at the end clapped, someone said to me well done runner, my head said BOOK THE NEXT ONE!!!!!
So that's it, a series of 3 on a Thursday night booked!!! Eeeekkk!
