W6r3 and my first race!

I signed up for my first ever race in Oct, a local 5k. Today was the 25min run of w6r3 and I managed 21.5mins. When the app finished I thought 'Im here to train for 5k so let's see how long it takes me'. Rather than the 5min cool down I went straight into running again and through a combination of running for 10, walking for 2, running for 8 etc etc I managed a 5k in 44min!! Even better, on my registration form for the race I estimated (I had no idea really) I would finish in 45min so it looks as though I can get faster from now and finish in a faster time!! *NEVER* did I imagine I would be capable of this especially as I struggled running for 1m at one point!

Wow that’s great. 2 months to train for your race and not long until you graduate C25K, you'll be super-speedy by October!

Best to follow the C25K plan though...:)

Long warm down 😂. It’s better than running tomorrow I think.

Just kidding... it’s impressive, but I’ll give you that my old coach would have kicked my ass for it 😂

Trouble is... we can damage ourselves without realising it...and Rowena has a while until October:)

I ran on dry sand on my second off day... and yes, this knee brace is working well as I resume a week and a half later, so I do hear you!

Tonight I could have run all night... my big toe on my left foot wanted to go for the 5k... but I was a good boy.

But of course. I meant the overall positive mental attitude rather than the extra run bit... ;-)

Please, take it gently... there is time enough until October...the programme is about following a slow and steady build up of the running legs...hidden injury is just that..hidden.

We often feel fine and can carry on running but we really advise against it.

Rest up and just follow the C25K plan...that way you will do your race..injury free...

I absolutely plan to carry on following the app, I have a week until my next run due to the kids being off school so lots of recovery time and I wouldn't do it unless I really felt I was able to. There's pushing yourself and then there's going a bit too far 🙂 But it was nice knowing that I have it in me!
