Having almost dismissed this NHS podcast as impossible music to run to, I actually quite enjoyed my run this morning, really feeling a little zip in my legs.
Decided to give the C25K podcast speed a try. The idea is that you not only consolidate your running post graduation but over time you speed up. Although the first interval found me gasping, once I got into my stride I could see the merits of Laura telling me to speed up and count the beat of my footfall.
It starts with five minutes at 150 beats per minute then alternates between 165 for a minute then back to 150 and then the usual five minute cool down walk. Can’t say as I like the techno rythem but it’s good having Laura remind you.
My next run will be to increase running time by 10%, not sure about music choice for that one as i’ll be back to slow and steady. 🏃♀️🏃♀️

It is good to be reminded that the running that feels impossible can become possible a little later - within reason of course, - no plans for double marathons on the radar! 😀
I do the Speed podcast every now and again, but I really don't enjoy it. I've tried doing speed intervals myself sometimes too, but I seem to prefer distance over speed. I'm now trying to push myself a little harder on the Cross Trainer in the gym instead - although I only do ten minutes as a warm up to my work out.
If you're looking for ideas for music there are several posts in the forum about playlists - might be worth you doing a search. I had a new playlist yesterday which might give you some ideas, but it depends what kind of music you are into. healthunlocked.com/couchto5... This gave me a good slow and steady run, endgame me a motivational push when I was flagging.
I generally like something with a pace rhythm, and have to change my playlist regularly as I have a very low boredom threshold. (I currently have 9 different ones on my phone which I rotate over three weeks).
Thanks Razouski, have to agree, not the best running music but it did give me an idea of where my pace should be and handy to have someone in my ear keeping me on track. I much prefer my own playlists though. 🙂
I did this at the weekend. Loved having Laura back but took me a while to get to her beat of 1,2,3,4! Agree her music choice is not best. Preferred the speed intervals to the slower run though. Think I’ll continue doing one interval run a week. 😊
Good idea, I’m with you, think I’ll continue with once a week. Lots of peeps seem to recommend interval training. I used to do it at the gym on cross trainer and bike. 😊
