Oh so very NOT.... I just seem to be hitting a wall. I'm so positive and so keen, I change my routes, I start out with good music and today, another ache in a new place, I tell myself, it's ok, Run through it. Trouble is mind starts to argue, and it goes like this "can't run no more" "no carry on your half way through" and it doesn't last long because I stop. Now I feel miserable when I should feel good. I'm pretty sure it's in my mind, I feel confident, no I know that I can do it, so why can't I ????
I don't want to give up but hate failure..

Have you tried listening to a podcast rather than music? I find they help distract me more during the longer runs and have now cut music out altogether while running. I listen to No Such Thing as a Fish by the writers of QI, which is both funny and interesting, really taking my mind off what my feet are doing.
I also find I go through stages during a run of feeling fine and then wanting to stop and the feeling fine again. It helps me to tell myself Iβll feel alright again in a minute, and I just need to push through the tricky stretch.
I'm sharing the pain with you Kim. Just think of it as a practice okay? No-one died and you're still a great human being and you'll crack it next time.
Podcasts may be the way to go - I've not tried them yet either, and from this point on the app is going into retirement. Just need a timer.
We all have an off day and that's what this was. I know, you look back and think "That was only supposed to be n minutes and it's daft not being able to put one foot in front of the other slowly for n minutes." But at the time it feels like some awful death march. I totally get it.
If we can walk for 25 minutes, we can totally do this as a run. Runs can be slower than walks. Different biomechanics. If it feels like a "run" it's a run, no matter how slow.
Take it slow. Then slower. Watch the snails zoom by. Give them a wave. First 5 minutes is always a bitch, but find your slow happy place and keep on trucking. You can always do the big sprint finish at the end if there's anything left in the tank.
Take a day off tomorrow. Drink plenty. Get plenty of sleep. Then you can sidle up behind W6R3 and nick its trainers on Thursday!!
I know we say this all the time but......on the longer runs you especially need to start slow and stay slow, then slow a bit more! Make sure you hydrate well the day before your run, choose a flat route.
You can do itπ
Hopefully you have already read this item which is packed with lots of useful info
Also take a look at this post (link below), which explains why the first 10 minutes or so feel hard. It is useful to know so that you can coach yourself through the difficult part, generally known as the toxic ten.
