A setback...

I last posted on here having finally finished the C25k - I was thrilled and excited to carry on building my fitness and distance.

However DISASTER STRUCK (drama queen) on my next run. I decided to run home (2miles) from the supermarket, sending my husband back with the shopping in the car. It was along paths I've not run before, I didn't do a full 5 minute warm up walk etc etc and after 5 minutes running ended up in a pile on the floor after tripping on uneven pavement and punching a wall on my way down (!!). Some ladies and an old man with a cane hurried over to check I was okay and I reassured them that (as far as I knew) it was just my pride, my grazed knee and bruised hand that was hurt. I was sensible and rang my husband to come and get me and hobbled 500m down the road to a bench outside the supermarket (the ladies and old mn leaving me in their dust). After getting my trainers off at home I realised that my left foot was a bit of a mess - I spent the night icing and elevating my rapidly swelling foot and thought it was just a bad twist.

The next morning and one enforced trip to Minor Injuries later (thanks husband, I was about to head into work on the bus....) I have a pull fracture in my fifth left metatarsal and a moon boot. The fracture clinic thinks that I will be fine after 6 weeks so currently I'm just working from home and getting used to lugging myself around on crutches.

Initially I was totally annoyed at myself, I play golf and am on my feet a lot (and obviously the newly found love of running) so this is massive bummer. I am trying to be easy on myself though, these things happen!

Does anyone have any tips for recovering - initially from the break and hopefully getting back to running? I am entered in the Great North Run in 4 months - I was planning on run / walking it anyway so hoping that I can attempt something on the day. I am being realistic and realising that it might not be possible right now - it may come down to confidence about running rather than fitness I suspect.

The injury couch isn't the best place, but it comes with lots of cuppas and netflix so it's not all bad!

So sorry to hear of your injury. I have had a fractured pelvis (fell off bicycle on ice) and cracked rib( fell off a pavement) No great advice - sorry, bones mend but it takes time. They seem to fuse back together. Enjoy netflix and your cuppa! Have you watched Whte Collar? Do hope it takes less than the 6 weeks the medical folk suggested.
