hello, police? week six run one tried to kill me

After a very successful week five run three, I was feeling confident for today’s run - perhaps a little too confident because I just finished and feel like I’m close to death 💀 I think after running a straight twenty minutes I went in to these shorter runs too enthusiastically and wiped myself out! Did anyone else find this when they started week six?

yes, I hated week 6. Luckily, week 7 was bliss.

Ah, just a couple of runs before I have bliss to look forward to then! Good new/s

Yep - spot on. I'm due to do R2 next. I was on such a high after W5R3 I came back with a bump! I keep telling myself I'll be fine - I did run for 20 mins after all..... well done for getting thru R1. We'll be fine - we got this. Good luck & keep us posted

Well done to you too! Glad I'm not alone in the W6R1 struggle though - good luck with the rest of the week!

Ah, there had to be a bumpy week along the road. Thank you!

Sounds like W6 is an intentional bucket of cold water to force a slower consistent pace after euphoria of W5. Naughty W6...

I'll try to remember that but probably won't. Don't hit W5 until Saturday

W6 is definitely a dark horse - don't let it fool you with its sneaky shorter intervals. Good luck with week 5!

in reply to sallenson

I went into it with no expectations & took it slow & steady. You’ll smash it - don’t worry.

I am about to go out and run week 6 run 1. I've been warned to treat it with respect x

Well done for getting so far x

Just done this run and haven’t felt this exhausted after a run since week 1! Really smacks you back down to earth after the high of W5R3!

I've just finished week 6 and really struggled with R1...thankfully feel as though I'm back in it again now for week7 😁

Week 7 seems to be a good week for a lot of people - I'm looking forward to it. Good luck!

Me too, did my first one of week 6 last night. After dreading the 20 minute one a week ago, couldn’t believe that this could be worse!

It's definitely a sneakier kind of difficult - plays on your overconfidence instead of self-doubt! Good luck on the rest of the week!

I do warn people about this run.

It is your longest workout to date............which just proves that brisk walking expends energy.

Well done.

It’s definitely a transition week. Madly, the longer runs after are easier! Good luck with the next run.

People spend so much energy worrying about Week 5 Run 3! Then week 6 run 1 bites us all in the arse!! 😫

Good luck/well done for W5R3 - my advice would be to take W6R1 slower than slow and give it the respect it demands!

Glad it gave you a laugh! I have run 2 today - looking forward to it though definitely going into it a little bit wary after Thursday haha! Good luck with your next run!

Oh my days..... I’m in the same boat! W6R1 was not good, it’s been the only run where I’ve been close to stopping my legs wouldn’t move! What the goodness is that all about!? At no point in W5R3 did I doubt I could it and this had me praying to Laura to Make. It. Stop. Please tell me it gets better!

sallenson profile image

I'm officially joining the "W6R1 WTF" club!! I got there, but blimey it was a toughie. Please tell me it gets better!! Please please please!!

Kherif profile image

Hi sallenson, this week has been a challenge.... mentally and physically. I’ve struggled to get my legs to move and my brain to relax! Just done W6R3 and I had several attacks of WTF am I doing? Along with no-one will know if I have a sneaky walk, mixed in with, I ran for 20 minutes no way am I giving in! I have to say that yes it’s hard BUT the legs came back in and I got through it. I’m looking forward to getting in some consistent running over the next few sessions now.... I can’t believe we’ve all come so, so far!!

sallenson profile image
sallensonGraduate in reply to Kherif

I had a really good R2 today. But R3? Who knows? You only really know when you start... But we absolutely have come a really really long way from those early days!! :-)

limberlou profile image
limberlouGraduate in reply to sallenson

@sallenson It gets better .. honest

sallenson profile image
sallensonGraduate in reply to limberlou

Don't get me wrong, I'm loving every blessed minute of this. :-) And R2 was great. R3 in the morning. Psyched up and ready to go. And knowing that W7 is just the same gives me some comfort!!

limberlou profile image
limberlouGraduate in reply to sallenson

I moan and grumble through most of my runs.... to my daughter if she’s with me and to myself if she’s not but I’m still really proud when Ive done them. I do a lot of “ come on you old git , you’re not bloody giving up yet” “ come on you’re nearly there ... only one more minute ...that’s just 60 seconds “ etc to myself

And the occasional “ you know I think I’ve got this running lark now”.........but that’s when I’m on my own and I’ve slowed down considerably. I AM very competitive and if I’m with someone else I push myself which isn’t always a good thing in this weather.

sallenson profile image
sallensonGraduate in reply to limberlou

Running alone (mercifully for everyone else) I found that "C'mon fat bastard" worked for me in the early days. Seemed to go better than "Come on darling, you can really do this". Plus it's easier to say in a short gasp.... :-)

limberlou profile image
limberlouGraduate in reply to sallenson

My daughter runs at an easy. conversational pace...I just grunt one word answers at her. We pass other runners and cyclists and they say hi and good evening and she answers them clearly and I just settle for grimacing and hoping they realise I’m trying to smile

sallenson profile image
sallensonGraduate in reply to limberlou

I work on the principle that if I grimace they'll mistake me for a psychopathic axe murderer and will run past me faster so I can resume "normal service".

Your daughter sounds awesome btw :-)

People always talk about "easy conversational pace". But they talk about unicorns and the benefits of Brexit too.... :-)

limberlou profile image
limberlouGraduate in reply to sallenson

I struggle to hold a conversation whilst walking sometimes so there’s no hope for it whilst running

She IS awesome but obviously I taught her well 😜

It’s funny I used to talk to myself as I walked down the dark lanes on my way home when I was a young girl because I figured that if I sounded like a loony then any weirdos wouldn’t jump out on me so I understand your psychopath impressions

sallenson profile image
sallensonGraduate in reply to limberlou

I struggle to hold a conversation. Period. Running or not. :-)

The "like Mother, Like Daughter" was so obvious that I refrained from typing it. But now I have. Doh.

Well done! You may find for this stage and other longer stages later on, that easing your pace just a little, does wonders for your distance. I had to learn this a few times 😊
