Half marathon

I want to run a half marathon. There, I’ve said it. Only problem is I can’t run. I have started walking to and from work this week, it’s just over 3 miles each way. Going to progress to running from beginning of June. Does anyone have any motivational tips to keep me going please?

You've just said you want to run HM, that's enough in terms of motivation for me. Just go and do it.

Please....read this... complete the programme... then after consolidation, move onto the 10 K running path... then think about that Half Marathon:)

Your journey starts here... welcome:)

Slow and steady... listen toall the great advice you will get here and.. instead of just doing the walking and beginning the runs in June... begin now..Week 1 Run

Ok, I’ll do it. I’ll keep the walking up to help with the weight loss, hopefully make the running easier in the long run (😆)

Thank you for the motivation oldfloss

The walking on rest days I find really useful. I was doing on average 10 miles a day when my small runner in training( grand daughter) was younger.. she in her buggy of course... not so far now as she wants to walk too:)

It all helps.. stamina and strength exercise on rest days.. swimming or yoga or Pilates... a day in the garden working hard..a blitz on housework... squats etc... all contributing to the process.

You will get there and you will have fun:) We are right here with you.. so ask anything you like :)

Oldfloss has said it all - Couch to 5k - consolidate 5k - 10k training plan plus strength/flexibility or cross training - consolidate - HM training! Great goal but it does of course take time and commitment to do it safely and avoid injury. A HM is a special thing to do but it's also great to set other smaller goals on the way, such as Parkrun, 5k, 10k and 10 mile events. All good to get you there! Oh and very important - "honour your rest days'. Skipping them in the early days means your body will not have time to strengthen and repair. Lots of support and encouragement here and on the other related running forums. Good luck!😀
