I am an absolute newbie to running

At almost 70, I heard about C25K and decided to give it a go. I have just completed week 5, run 1. So far, I have repeated any run which I considered was less than satisfactory , but am enjoying the challenge - and certainly find myself having more energy do tackle other tasks in the day ( decorating, gardening, housework ...)

However, I am not looking forward to the next two runs this week - it seems a big jump!

You are doing GREAT!!! Just take the runs bit by bit and nibble your way into them. 👍🏻😊

Hello Lilian you’ll be absolutely fine, it does seem like a big jump and quite daunting, any doubts, slow down. I can still walk faster than I can run, but I’m still running. One run at a time, go you.

You really don't need to worry. Each run prepares you for the next one, as you have discovered.

W5R2 is exactly the same duration between warm up and cool down as W5R1, with one extra minute of running.

W5R3 is actually a minute shorter between warm up and cool down than both the previous workouts. The difference in energy expenditure between a brisk walk and a gentle jog is minimal, so in fact this week is only a big step psychologically.

What is the worst that can happen? You have to repeat a run......that is not a problem. Banish any negativity and look forward to the challenge, which you will conquer.

You’re an inspiration! Lady of your age. I was thinking the same how on earth could I run for 20 mins non stop in w5r3 but I did it & found it gave me loads of confidence that I’ll be able to complete this thing!! You’ll be amazed what you can achieve I promise you. Good luck!

Wow that's awesome! I started this programme as my 76 year old mother beat me in a race on the beach at Easter! She is really fast! Well done and keep it up x 😃

Wow! Good effort! Just take it nice and easy and you’ll be fine. It’s all in the mind this week!
