Dilemma!! What should I do?

W5R3 tomorrow, should I try and do it on the road, have not done any on the road so far as it is far too busy but should be OK if I went out 6am ish or do my usual and go to the gym after work at 5pm and go on treadmill. Just think 20 mins on treadmill will be so long and boring. Any advice gratefully received.😀

I’ve done all my running outside. You have to deal with uneven ground, slopes, wind, sometimes rain.

I guess part of the answer is to ask yourself why you run indoors.

Will the difference put you off what is a challenging run at this stage of your journey?

Or will this free you from the gym running and get you outside?

Good luck, whichever you choose.

I’m pretty much gym-phobic, so it’s a no brainer for me!

If you wish to try outside could you take your gear to work, then on your way home find somewhere green to run? A canal towpath, a park, a trail?

Many people find moving from treadmill to outdoors quite a challenge, so I would suggest that you leave it for a run that is not stepping up the demands on you. Otherwise you will have no idea whether would have managed the run, had only one significant factor changed.

Thanks, I think I will stick with the treadmill for now and try outside when it’s not quite so much of a challenge.

Carry on as you are for now on the programme, that's what you're used to, but would highly recommend you do make the move to outside eventually though, don't try and fix what's not broken, not yet anyway..😊

I have only done treadmill until this week. I did w5 run 1, outdoors. It was so different to the treadmill, a lot harder, but I think I went a little too fast at first, and got out of breath too quickly, so I slowed my pace down, then I was Ok. Good luck with whatever you decide

I train in our park which I know every bump twist and bobble of and then move to doing my run outside the park and along the harbour if I repeat a run. That way I know what's coming tiredness-wise. And it's a reward to myself to see something different.

Hi, I will be doing wk 5 run 3 at weekend, I have always ran outside, I love the freedom, the fresh air, the weather, even the rain, it feels liberating!! I am doing things I never thought I would do like run first thing after brekkie, with an unwashed face, and bed hair haha I have stopped thinking of what other people think, do whatever you feel comfy with but do try ouside running, it really is good for the soul, good luck, :)
