NHS Health Check

Not directly related to C25K but can't seem to find a good place to post and hoping some of you lovely people might respond.

Just had an NHS Health Check and had one in 2013 (yes, over the age requirement!) when they were promoting them in local malls and retail places. Rang for results and told all was fine apart from slightly low vitamin D. They didn't give me my cholesterol levels which I wanted as want to compare with before. I asked for a print out of all results - well, it's a pathology report, not a health profile, and needs quite a bit of medical interpretation. Basic info isn't there, height, weight etc. which the nurse didn't confirm at the time. Disappointed as my first one (not done at my GPs) gave me an easy to read 'Health Profile' and results for everything and gave brief explanations.

Does this seem right? Not much point in having a health check which is meant to be preventive if you can't easily understand the results! Clearly nothing worrying or they would have called me in. Wondered if anyone else has had a different experience.

Yes I had one of those and it was very comprehensive. I think you should phone them and tell them you don't have all the relevant information and the basic stuff like weight, height. Also, someone needs to talk you through the results. A nurse did mine and she was brilliant. In fact I had a little argument with her because I thought she got my height wrong but in fact I had gained an inch through my pilates!

I'm not surprised you're disappointed.

Thank you so much for your very prompt reply. Yes, I thought it was a bit odd that I was told to ring for results, but they couldn't seem to give me much over the phone. But as nothing particular is wrong, I didn't get offered a run through with a nurse.

For people with potential problems, if they don't get a proper easy-read printout of every key result, not much help for them.

I guess it is due to cut backs - unless serious/urgent issue, forget it! I feel a bit guilty bothering them with all the pressure they must be under these days, when I am not ill. But I wanted a track record as I have made an effort to improve my health, reduce cholesterol etc.

Thanks again Irishprincess, I will contact them. I may also ask NHS England what one should expect. Take care 😊

Your local Clinical Commissioning Group are responsible for GP services. You could contact them and ask what you should expect with regard recieving feedback and results.
