Hi everyone, looking for some help and advice. Recently started couch to 5k but have been struggling with painful shins. Then tonight I attempted week 2 run 3 but had to abandon as even the warm up walk was uncomfortable. As soon as I started to run it was so painful I had to stop immediately. The pain I have been getting is actually not along my entire shin but at the top, towards the inside of my legs just below the knee. I have been doing loads of stretches, particularly ones for shin splints and I also tried some compression socks tonight along with some ibuprofen gel, all to no avail. I feel really despondent and a bit rubbish to be honest that I’m only on week 2 and I have had to stop. Does anyone have any suggestions? Do I just have to wait until they stop hurting and then start at the beginning again? Any help or advice would be really appreciated. Thanks 😊

How frustrating for you. I was reading a blog earlier about shin splints. This is the link, it was quite an interesting read with a lot of sensible advice

Aches and pains are normal... just take it steadily and slowly and persevere... lots of massage after stretching will help too...it does not sound like shin splints... try these exercises...

and these after the runs
