I'm currently on W2 due run 3 tomorrow but my knees are really sore, it even hurts to walk! I was so pleased cos week 1 went so well and I was so determined to do well 😣. I know I won't be abld to run tomorrow so do I just rest until my knees feel ok then redtart or pick up where i left off?

I had the same problem around week 4. Got lots of advice from here and went for gait analysis and got fitted for new running shoes. Also did some knee exercises and wore knee supports. And I rested up for a few days. When I started back again I went extra slow and tried to land lightly on my feet (no slapping!) and my knees have been fine since. I just restarted the programme where I'd left off. Apparently if you have less than 2 weeks off it's ok to carry on where you left off. Best of luck with your knees and your running!

Thanks, I've had a gait analysis done and got decent trainers, hopefully after a few days rest I'll be able to continue 😊

Hi Julat, yes as MuttleyShuffle says, it could be your footwear is not giving you correct support...

A few days rest, then a gait analysis may be the answer..

There is a guide to this here...

healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Good luck getting this sorted.😊 x

I had this. One knee then the other. I took pain killers, iced, knee supports and against advice, ran through it with tablets before runs. I got through it. Probs not the best thing to do πŸ˜‚

If you read the guide to the plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5... it will answer many of your questions.

A very large number of people here have found your sort of pains can be largely eradicated by having a gait analysis and getting shoes based on the recommendations that follow.

I hope you get sorted soon.

I don't think anyone has mentioned stretching. I had terrible trouble with one knee in particular and ended up seeing a sports physio who said the muscles were knotted and tight and I hadn't taken the time needed to stretch properly at the end of a run. Might be worth trying before forking out for new shoes - that said, the correct shoes can make all the difference. Good luck!
