New and hopeful!

Since learning that running isn't bad for the knees, I decided it was time to get going! I have just completed my first run - I started on week 2, as I do exercise regularly, I just don't do running. I checked that I could easily run properly for 90 seconds beforehand!

I have tried running before but got very discouraged by trying to do too much too soon, running with people who were already runners. The app is brilliant and helps so much - I couldn't do it on my own. A bit worried I won't enjoy my second or third run as much, but fingers crossed...

Well done on getting out there! It's great that you enjoyed your first outing.

I had my first yesterday too. I found the app great. I really enjoyed having Michael Johnson spurring me on too ;)

When are you going out for your next run?

Hey, thanks for the reply! It is really good to have a forum of people on the same adventure. Well done to you too. Have you wanted to run for a while or just a spur of the moment sort of thing?

Sunday for next run, which should work well. I normally do a long walk with a borrowed dog on Mondays - she runs a lot but I don't!

I agree, it's always good to have the support of people on the same journey.

I've not run - or even really thought about running - since school.

What prompted this interest is a friend suggesting we take part in a Race For Life in July.

Whilst out yesterday though, I remembered how much I loved the 1500m in school. I liked the time on my own and pacing myself carefully.

How about you - what sparked your interest?

I do regular dance classes (tap and salsa) plus pilates, and do some regular light weight training, but I am very aware that my aerobic fitness level is not great. Even when I used to do karate and before that, lots of sports at school, it was never that great! I want an easy, cheap and accessible aerobic exercise that I can just do, without having to get to a gym or whatever. I know people who are very enthusiastic runners, and it just seems to tick the boxes. But when I have tried before, it hasn't worked well. I am really hoping building up really slowly will work for me.

I think the slow build up is definitely going to be key for me. I wouldn't have known where to even begin otherwise!

Have you run today, and if so, how did it go? I have had to postpone mine - I have decided to keep my C25k a little secret from my partner, so I can surprise him when I can nonchalantly run for half an hour! So that means running weekdays only for the most part. Luckily I am self-employed and can normally fit a run in. So looking forward to getting out there again tomorrow.

Sorry for the delay!

I had to put a bit of a pause on running due to a few days of cluster headaches but got out on Tuesday. It went well, thank you. Went to the local park, (almost exactly a five minute brisk walk from my house!), and found the increased incline a little tricky at times but did complete it and felt good afterwards so it's all gravy.

How are you doing keeping your runs a secret so far? Such a fun plan!
