What not to do...

Here is a tale and a half about being a bit stupid.

A couple of weeks ago, I was on a treadmill having a run. And wearing my new Garmin 235 which I was not really used to. During the run, I could not read the field on display on the watch, so I stepped off the treadmill to read the watch in a better light. No problem with that, stepping off a treadmill using the sides is fairly routine.

Having read the watch I stepped back onto the treadmill, carefully standing on the sides, and then onto the running surface. The trouble was, it was still spinning at about 11k an hour and as soon as I stepped on it, down I went, with the track giving my right left a right good sandpapering. That's what not to do.

So, as I am recovering from sepsis, immune system shot, the knee wound gets infected and I have to go to the Doctor for antibiotics.

Second mistake - with wound covered with knee bandage, I decided to play a full game of football yesterday, on real grass, outside. Most of my team mates, and the opposition were fifty years younger than me, but that has never stopped me making a fool of myself.

Inevitably, half an hour into the game I did a slide tackle to knick the ball away from the opposition and of course the still healing knee ripped open in a gouge of mud, grass and blood. That's not what to do writ large.

And the purpose of this post is to put up a gratuitously offensive picture of the wounds, and to record that my present attempt to complete Couch to 5k is set back a couple of weeks.....

And there is another lesson here. With all the parks, country lanes and beautiful scenery we are blessed and privileged with, you've chosen to run on a machine inside?! I just don't get it, man...

(Please don't use weather as an excuse)

Haha, maybe ease off on playing football while wounded! You want to be able to run sometime soon don’t you? 😉 Hope you heal up quickly!

The main point of my running is to keep fit so I can be selected for an increasingly rare game of real football. Not easy to catch the selector's eye in your seventies!

Yikes. Lovely image. Glad you got correct treatment though. My mother would have slapped a dollop of germolene on that. That was her answer to any injuries unless there was bone poking out🤣

Hope you are not laid up for too long.

Actually I used your Mum's technique, only a dollop of Savlon. May need to shamefacedly go back to the Doctor, explain, and ask for more antibiotics....

Wishing you a speedy recovery. I managed to fall off of a treadmill last year whilst trying to jog and remove a jumper at the same time, not a mistake I will be making again!
