As a 49 year old man who hated cross country at school, I can't believe how well this programme works, yesterday for the first time in my life I ran 5k, I followed the plan and just kept going I'm not going to lie it hurt from time to time but it was all worth it for the personal joy and sense of achievement I felt completing the distance. I think it may be a little early to book my first marathon, but I'm going to keep going.

If you're at the start of this process and think you can't do it, take it from me as someone who is fat, forty and unfit you can do it if you push yourself a little bit.

It's amazing I hated every run for the first 5 weeks and now I look forward to them, I'm not fast and my running is not pretty but I don't care. Keep going and good luck
