When to start recording

Just back from my run on the cliff top, off road and pretty muddy in places. Enjoyed it though! So I start my Strava then go into the app and Michael has his pep talk and I’m already recording the run time. I usually turn strava off when my cool down walk is over. So is this the usual way to record the run or are you only supposed to record actual running time ? Thanks everyone 🏃🏻‍♀️😊

If you wAnt to record your overall exercise start from the off. If you just want to know how far the run was then just record that. You can even pause it during the walk sections if you want. It depends what you need the data for.

Oh that’s a good idea! I didn’t think of that!

Its up to you CatMo...you are only comparing your own stats of your own runs so just be consistent.

When I started to use Strava ( after graduating) I would include the warm up walk but not the warm down walk when using the c25k +podcasts.

Now I just start Strava when I'm about to start running and stop when I finish running.

It is nice to have the record of your run, and can help you stay motivated.

Good luck with Wk8 R3

Happy running 😊x

Thanks Jan, yep always happy running and sometimes I think wow I can’t believe I’ve run this far.

I started off recoding the whole thing from warm up walk to end of cool down walk - but now that I’m running for longer I only start the run timing after warm up walk and actually start running, and stop it when I start the cool down, that way I can see my speed, splits etc. And get some comparable data. I find it quite interesting to compare my runs - how you feel, lead legs doesn’t always equate to the stats which can be helpful 🤔 (long answer!) 😅

Thanks ebcroq yes maybe I’ll do that once I’m running longer.

I always start RunKeeper when I start my warm up walk, and stop it at the end of my cool down. I just don’t want the faff of getting my phone in and out at other times.

I use 2 apps on my runs. Runkeeper for everything, warm up , run and cool down. Strava just to record the run itself. One reason is that you will always have some info to look at and 2nd reason I’m increasing my distance as I’m doing my first half marathon in October so need to monitor my runs xx you will find what works best for you xx

Ooh good luck with the training for your half . At the moment I will stick with strava as have that and the C25K plus my music app to juggle 😁
