Pride comes before a fall 😕

So my last post was how chuffed I was at completing week 6 and feeling so proud of myself. Last night I attempted week 7/1. Five minutes into my run my left calf was burning so after slowing down to a mega slow pace to see if that helped and trying to push through it I end up walking and doing some stretches before setting off again. My whole run continued in this fashion so I completely failed to complete the solid run I had hoped for. I know a 12 hour day at work perhaps contributed to this disaster but feeling utterly discouraged as this was the run that I hoped would make me feel that I could reach my goal . 🤨

We don't use the f word it just didn't go to plan. There is no rush so have your rest day or two and go again.

Take it slow and slower still 👍

You WILL reach your goal. It was just a set back. Have your rest and prepare well for the next one with good hydration both the day before and on run day. Believe in yourself. Look how far you've come!

I just couldn’t complete the last 25 min run in week 6. Has to slow right down and stop after 22 mins. I feel disheartened as well.

Don’t feel disheartened Sue. Just remember why you are doing this and that you don’t need to report to anyone. If you need to slow or stop that is ok. Just keep the habit up. Take your time and it will come

I would have been happy with 22 minutes but couldn’t manage more than 5 so well done you x

I did W2 twice due to ankle pain and it definitely helped. I was so disappointed but my partner gave me a talking to- im stll doing 30 mins exercise 3x a week, injury won't help, etc- and here I am about to do W4R2. We're all here for you

Must be difficult for a returning accomplished runner,to restrain yourself.🤔🙈

The FAQ Posts are a must read, apart from the obvious, but hugely interesting also.

What a team and this forum,is something else.

Interesting and unfortunate, I suppose the negative word is superfluous to the word injury, in addition to the obvious.

Every runner at every level, occasionally has a run that doesn't live up to expectations. It certainly does not mean that you have failed in any way. Learning to cope with this sort of thing is part and parcel of becoming a runner.

This is training your body, not a tick box exercise. So if your body needs coaxing through certain stages, so be it. It is all part of the learning process. Setting up your run carefully is something that more experienced runners tend to do better than new runners. Fitting life around their running rather than the other way round. That way fuel and hydration, rested and mental states and all those other things that impact on your running are taken into account, rather than taken for granted.

Rest up the leg, maybe try some dynamic warm up exercises runnersworld.com/ask-coach-... and you will be fine.

You should be running slowly all the time! Maybe pushing too much has caused your calf to pull you up! Slow and steady. It's all that's needed

I hope you'll be ok to carry on. If not, take a few days out and see how it goes.

Dont get disheartened SueLyle! We all have setbacks but we push through. I had loads of injuries to start with, some unrelated to running like falling off a ladder, falling downstairs but I didn't quit. Keep going!

Don’t hang too much pressure on this one run Jules. Its only one run. Give yourself a little time to recover. A soak in the tub helps loosen the muscles afterwards sometimes as well. A little stretching before and after each run helps too. Maybe go out a bit below your last pace next time, just to see how it feels. No worries, you’ve got this!

I think I’ll take your advice and try a slow run tomorrow 🙏 it’s a good one . I going to try the same run again

I’ve had a bit of calf pain - had to slow right down and take a smaller stride for next few runs. Unless it properly pings in which case you really will need to rest 🤞

Yay so did the run again this morning albeit at snail pace but I did it ! Thanks all for giving me the confidence and all the great tips 😊
