After the euphoria of completing W5R3 I was looking forward to starting Week 6 this morning. It's been a busy week, so I was maybe feeling a little sluggish, but I was pretty confident about the run, given that it was back to intervals. I decided to change my route, and follow the circular route in the opposite direction. Man, was my run hard! I was so glad of the recovery intervals, especially as going in the opposite direction means it's a whole lot steeper. You don't notice the incline going in the other direction. The fact that I felt I was struggling led to my first encounter with the gremlins, who were telling me to stop. I'm pleased to say I didn't stop, and completed the run. Looking at the positives, I covered more distance today. I've been averaging about 4.6km (including warm up and warm down walks) and today I did 4.9km.
Anyway today was a success, but it felt like a blip, and a bit of a come down. However I'm looking forward to getting out again.

I think most of us struggled with wk6 run1, probably because it's mentally challenging going back to intervals, after the euphoria of wk5 run3 we probably think the next one will be easy because it's intervals but in fact it's the opposite.
Onwards and upwards for you. Great distance by the way and with hills!! X
you are doing WONDERFULLY! I did not even reach 5K until a few weeks after graduation! AND you are running hills! Will see you at the Graduate table pretty soon at this rate!
Sounds like a huge success to me.. lots of tough runs in the mix but that's whats needed to make us capable.. and you sure are..slaying those gremlins became a brilliant mission on my journey.. I will run slightly ahead on your next run and blast some away.. see you at the finish line very soon
Thank you for all the encouragement! As a postscript I had another look at my stats for this run and noticed the elevation gain today was 31metres, compared with 19 going in the other direction...
I ran with MapMyRun! Distance: 4.88km, time: 37:03, pace: 7:36min/km, speed: 7.90km/h.
A lot of people struggle with that one after feeling on top of the world after W5R3. Well done for pushing through and you're battling with hills which is so impressive! Although the intervals feel needed it sometimes is easier to get into a rhythm without them which could have added to why this run felt difficult (as well as the hill of course!). Keep going, you're doing great.
You've done really well. I did that run this morning and found it tough. That surprised me after managing 20 minutes on the trot twice last week , but it's onwards and upwards (I had a long slow hill today as well. Puffing and panting but I made it.) We can definitely do this! X
