Hi there and welcome to, What is your Week ? February (2)

Hopefully, lots of you will be joining in with this; it is a great support to everyone.

The idea of, "What is your Week" ?

Every week we are going to put up a post, so you can add in a little post underneath, to say what week you are planning to do this week.

Sample post (feel free to put as much or as little as you like):

“Hi Im Ju-Ju and this week, I am doing the dreaded week 5 run 3... help!, any tips guys? ”

We are growing so much at the moment and we wanted to have a little fun post ,so we can see who is on what week of the programme, and hopefully it will help everyone to feel more included on the forum.

Please remember it doesn't matter if you stay on the same week for a while, that is fine; it is a journey and it really doesn't matter how long it takes, it will be so worth it when you get to the final run.

At the end of the month there will be a Certificate for you to download and keep; just a little memento of the fact you have completed a whole month of the program. Another full month of running for you.

If you have just graduated, this will be a great place to keep you motivated, there is always the Quest on the Bridge to 10k forum as well for graduates.

I will add all the names from this week under this post. Every week for the month of February the names will roll over into another post.

Let's get a good list going so we can support each other.

(Come on you lurkers, you can do it as well. ?)

Happy Panthering

Ju-Ju x

Week two run three for me. I'm enjoying it, I think! But my knees are a little stiff and sore. Should I leave more than a day between runs or persevere?

ju-ju- profile image
ju-ju-Graduate in reply toFirsttimenanna1

If you feel your body needs it, then yes. There is no harm in that. Some people do each week twice which helps too....

Just finished WK6 R2, will be doing R3 hopefully Saturday evening after work.

Just off out to repeat W6R2 with the now injury-free dog before getting back into the W7 25 min jogs and getting back on track ^_^ While I've kept up -something- over the last 2 weeks they've been 11-18 min durations, I'm in no rush to finish :p Started post-injury in November.

Completed W2 on Thursday. R3 was toughest as my shin felt sore when running only. One colleague who runs marathons mentioned that I may need to get different trainers. Any thoughts or advice?

DeterminedBear profile image
DeterminedBearGraduate in reply toSamarie

A gait analysis is the recommendation given on here and a running shop should be able to assist. My trainers are a neutral fit but I aim to have a analysis soon to ensure I'm getting the right support. I popped into my local shop on the off chance and they were very helpful. Returning soon!

Samarie profile image
SamarieGraduate in reply toDeterminedBear

Thank you for your advice. I have found a sports shop that offers gait analysis and will go tomorrow

ju-ju- profile image
ju-ju-Graduate in reply toSamarie

A gait analysis then getting decent shoes is a good idea... it certainly worked for me :)

Samarie profile image
SamarieGraduate in reply toju-ju-

I had my gait analysis done yesterday and have been fitted with new trainers. Will be going for W3R2 today. Excited!

W2R2 & 3 done. What a difference with the right trainers. Even had enough energy left to do 1 hour swim this evening.

Just finished week 6. I am finding first few mins running ok then after about 8 mins or so feel like I want to stop and thinking “how much longer?” I am resisting temptation to check how long I have been running for though and just carry on and it seems easier.

Reading through posts this seems quite common. I am starting to record in strava my distance/pace and did 4.6k in 40 mins on my 25 minute run. Bit more walking at the end because of circular route I took.

I am trying not to think too much about speed but I have some running friends and we are doing a 6k run beg of March. I am not going to attempt to keep up with them but would like to run the whole thing!

I am in my early 40s not overweight but was definitely not fit before I started this.

Question I have is: I am thinking am doing ok in this as managing all runs and feel good after afterwards but am I being a bit ambitious or optimistic thinking I can do 6k run in March?

This forum is really helpful and enjoying reading posts!

tfcmagpie profile image
tfcmagpieGraduate in reply toAndG

I would say your target is achievable AndG however do not push yourself too much. You are near enough to 5K and what you are looking to do is only another 8 minutes or so. Now that you have routine try relaxing more in the penultimate KM opening your mind and thinking about other things. Before you know it you will be inside the last 500 metres which is always the fastest.

AndG profile image
AndGGraduate in reply totfcmagpie

Thanks for advice. Hopefully the next 3 weeks runs which are regular constant running will help me learn to relax into running. Knowing that I have managed to run for certain length of time already does help. I also need to drink more water too tea is my usual beverage of choice! Going to try to swap tea for water this week and see how it effects things.

tfcmagpie profile image
tfcmagpieGraduate in reply toAndG

Yes I followed the same pattern and it does help. Good luck with the next three weeks, don't push too hard and focus on the goal.

you are doing very well indeed..... will you have graduated by March? If so that should be doable.... well done

AndG profile image
AndGGraduate in reply toju-ju-

I will have graduated but only just! I’ve just done w7/r2 tonight and last one of week on Friday. I think I should be ok. Not going to try and be speedy just going to aim to run whole course! Thanks for encouragement 😀

Just finished two days working Thursday and Friday,so today having a rest and tomorrow will get back out there on the running journey ! getting ready for the big 60 on Tuesday! Party! Party! Party!🎂🍾🏃🏃🤪

Happy running all!😀😀

I’m still working up to week 4. I think my fitness would be fine for it, but although the knee which has been painful in the past hasn’t even given a tiny twinge this time round, I’ve developed a very tender spot just under my other knee which Dr Google suggests could be tendon-related. So I’m not going to try and push on quickly, but will try to be patient and let it get better.

I’m just fed up with legs and feet hurting. Since August there’s been plantar fasciiitis (which finally disappeared virtually overnight a couple of weeks ago after 4 months of being very sore), a bunion developing on my big toe which can be incredibly painful at random times but fortunately doesn’t seem bothered by running, and now this knee thing. Bah.

I am entering my 70th year and decided to lose weight and exercise more. I belong to walking groups and walk several miles a week but never fast enough to get me out of breath, we talk too much. I started to take part in "parkrun" and have just completed my 4th "run" but really just walking fast with a little jog. On my first event it took 52 minutes for 5K and my current time is 47 minutes, 5 minutes off already, I am hoping to do 30 minutes by the end of the year. I was advised today to try couch to 5k, the podcast is downloaded and I will start tomorrow. Wish me luck x
