No running today. Tooth knocked out, about to be stuck with several needles in Dentists.
Not fair, should have happened on a rest day π

You bin fighting with the errant dog walkers again young man? Whatever and however, I hope it's fixed with as little pain as possible and you're back out on the road with your megawatt smile soonest. π
Ouchy
Oooh - ouch! - been mixing it up with the idiots in cars or the dog walkers? Hope all is back to normal soon bud.
Yep - comfortably numb now though ju-ju-
Decker! - Don't you and McFitty be putting ideas in my head for next lunging dog encounter π
Ooooo thats not a nice thing to happen. Take care IJ
Ouch! Bad luck there John. I have heard of runners hitting the wall but rarely the other way round. I hope you get it fixed up without too much pain...and expense!
Thank you for making me smile (if all lopsided LOL ) that wall comment is brilliant!
This is the USA - fast, friendly and really top class dental work when you need it.
Bill is a little under $200....would have been a tad over $2,000 only for my medical insurance picking up most of it, and I have really good medical insurance compared to most of the population. However - that was just for the 'essential work'. I have to pay for the crown out of pocket - $1300 bucks. If I don't get the crown - the support for the neighboring teeth is missing, and in a while so will the neighboring teeth be...and then their neighboring teeth and so on.
'Essential work' - definition really can be a tad subjective, yes?
So you can see why I am thanking for the laugh, right?
The NHS is often maligned over there - but it does have its undoubted merits...
Still - could have been a broken jaw or fractured skull or something really bad so can't complain really - and they have given me some MONGO painkillers
Happy running y'all now. Me? - I'm just going to 'float' for a bit as soon as I can figure out how to open this childproof cap on the opiod-based tablets
(ps- in all seriousness, I neither take not condone taking non-prescribed of legally proscribed substances and I don't want anyone to think I do. I got through a Kidney stone episode on one single narcotic 'cos I hate what they do to my head...and not even my more recent hip deal drove me to this limit..but man, this is Pain City right now...)
Ouch. Poor you. π
Thank you Jude - lovely namesake of the Catholic Patron Saint of Hopeless Causes!
THE jude gave me up long ago though LOL
Sounds like an insurance claim waiting to happen.
Nah - not going after anyone Rignold - too much of that crap and all it does is ruin things when it comes to 'common sense and a bit of empathy for the next bloke'. Look how much fun has been stripped from what were once common events for all the family etc because of huge insurance premiums organizers would have to pay, and look at how many small firms go bust because some whiny bollix with a shyster lawyer spin and lie about workplace accidents. I had to deal years ago with a Security Trainee who had a 'workplace accident'.
Briefly - they were claiming all sorts of physical and mental damages pursuant to a fall on a floor caused by a - according to their shyster - 'preventable and negligent hazard'.
Idiot-Stick had 'slipped on a strawberry that was on the floor'.
Luckily the case was thrown out when I gently pointed out that someone who had qualified 'physically and mentaly' for training in a postion that entailed ",,, a high degree of vigilance, observation, emergency response protocol skills, clear thinking in stressful situations, ability to, insofar as possible, ANTICIPATE and NEUTRALIZE potential safety and security hazards from any aspect or component in the immediate surroundings, etc etc etc" ....should have had no problem seeing a RED strawberry in the MIDDLE of a WHITE tile floor and be REASONABLY expected NOT TO STEP ON THE DAMN THING!. ( yep - that clown still has me pissed off, sly and manipulative doesn't even cover what he was
Anyway - this face thing was an accident pure and simple, and going after some poor bloke who not in a million years would drop a brick on someone is not my style - it would wreck his premiums even if I was successful. And anyway - If I was held to account for all the stupid crap I ever did, I wouldn't even have had ANY teeth to get broken...or arms or legs...you get the picture
Sometimes bad stuff just happens and its nobody's fault and then its best just cry a bit and have it over with Only Insurance that needed to step up - because that's why I have accident insurance - has.
Wish they could lengthen their stride a bit, but next time someone shouts and I'm beneath them on a ladder it will be 'duck and cover' instinctively and not look up like a turkey in a rainstorm And that may well save me from a LOT worse in future - so an expensive enough lesson, but a valuable one - not everyone keeps it together enough to shout 'COVER!' when these things happen, as they do fairly regularly.
These opiod painkillers are beginning to kick in (beginning? LOL ) so I am going to be REALLY SENSIBLE for once and not go near the internet for the rest of the day - god Knows what I might post if I were even more batshit crazy than I am on any given day anyway
Not a good way to spend time π Hope it doesn't get in the way of your running John.
Ouch! take it you were wearing hard hat? need a baseball face protector shield as well, bit of a rare occurrence though, Yeah? hope all's well now..π
Ah, that's where l draw the line. Give me a physio any time but do not send me to my sociopathic dentist, a guy who gets pleasure from my pain, and charges handsomely. It's a win-win for those creatures.
Hope you get fixed without being traumatised, life in these times is awkward enough without some creative artists drilling through our teeth.
My guy is super cool - fills me to the gills with Novocaine, and that after liberal lashings of Topical Lidocaine Only reason I still have most of my own teeth is him Took me a while to find a dentist like that when I finally had anything like a settled abode - but well worth shopping around.
The Bollix better not retire before they put me in a box though! LOL
Brick in face sounds like a cartoon injury accompanied by a DONG SPLAT π₯
But I bet it didnβt feel that way π
John.... do I have to come over there and wrap you up in cotton wool π...!
Ouchy...enough of these accidental injuries interfering with your running scheduleπ
Wait til its all settled down before you run.
Take careπxx
You are much calmer about the whole thing than I would be! I hope all is well and that the drugs let you down lightly
Thank you and quite honestly Annie - so much crap has happened I really don't worry too much anymore, it
s ot so much being 'tough' as being bloody worn out with it all LOL . Life goes on and I have been knocked around enough to know that you either bounce back as well as you can, or waste an awful lot of time fretting over things you cannot change
I ended up taking three courses of the painkillers - never in my life before have I ever done ANYTHING like that dose of narcotic painkiller. Do NOT like the stuff - but it is a valuable tool when needed and if used carefully. I had ten or twelve doses left this morning when I woke up - and down the toilet they have gone. Ibuprofen will be plenty for the next few days
Yikes! Just read about your ordeal. I hope you're feeling better now. Finding a good dentist makes all the difference.
When it comes to Medics, my honest advice as a Male is :
Get a female Doctor. They still have to work harder than men to make it through Med school etc. So - more dedicated, qualified and emphatic as a rule. Also - it's a respect thing, God knows they get less of that in general than their male counterparts and from idiot men who don't "feel comfortable' having a woman Doctor.
For similar reasons - get a Male Nurse.
Dentists - not many female ones even over here. So, got one who understands pain - he's a Cancer survivor as well as a Vet - and doesn't mess about if an extra shot of novacaine stops mine.
And in return, I don't second guess them, miss appointments, diagnose myself or fail to follow "orders" ( except I still eat crap food sometimes
It's basically teamwork and it's kept me going this lenght : )
I'm getting off my soapbox now, and thanks for your kind words Lavender
