I'd mentally prepared for this although my lungs were still a little sceptical ......

But it was ok. Really ok.

Made a conscious effort to keep it slow and steady and wore a cap to keep the rain off my specs.

I think it really helped to run in the light and be able to see the birds and scenery and occasional other joggers and dogs.

Looking forward to the next one!

If your lungs are complaining, slow down even more. As a new runner you will develop perfectly well at a gentle jog and if you cannot get enough oxygen in as a consequence of shallow breathing, you will tire quicker. Build your base strength and stamina at an easy pace and then build speed on top of those solid foundations.
