Hi all, Happy New year, I haven't ran since November due to foster children and several colds/ manflu. How far do you think I should run? Do I have to go back to the start? Lovely to be back, hope all my running friends are well.

If you haven't run for a few months then take care. There are more wise-heads on this forun who will along shortly to advise you - but how far did you get through the programme up til Nov?

I graduated in September, I was running 2 x5k and 1 x7.5k a week.

You were pretty much on your way to 10k at that stage so I would think you should be fine. Why not just start at a slow run (I know you have speed in those legs) and see how you get on. Maybe aim for 20-30 minutes?

I would do one full Week 5, then 1 of week 6, building from there. Once you are out there you will know what you can do.

No, no need to redo any of the programme. Just go out and have a run. Go slower than you would have before. See how far you get. When you feel you can't run any more, stop. Have a rest day, or two if your legs are sore (they will be a bit) then do it again. Repeat and build up your times again. Or don't even bother timing yourself, just run by feel. There is no need to set an arbitrary target.

Hi Martin, I was in a similar position. Not ran since early December due to knee injury, funeral then getting a cold.

After much putting off and deciding it was too cold I invested in some winter trousers and a jacket so no more excuses and last night set off. I managed 25 mins non stop (three laps of the local recreation area) before my legs and body said enough. So, I would just aim for 20-30 minutes or so and listen to your body.

Fingers crossed and just remember slow and steady.

Nell :)
