How to keep the motivation during less than ideal winter running conditions? Shiny new bling!!!

In honour of the release of the new Star Wars film (yay!!!! πŸ€“) and after reading about Kimchoc08 and Sadie-runs 's virtual Dr Who run in March, I signed up for Revenge of the Sixth, a 5k virtual race to be run May 6. It has some pretty sweet bling. Can't wait! I'm hoping I can convince my 10year old to run it with me.....maybe he will if I offer to give him the bling. It looks pretty sweet and who can resist some shiny new star wars bling πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. Thanks Kim and Sadie. This is exactly what I needed to keep the motivation strong over the cold winter months with challenging running conditions!

Yikes! Now I have to sign up for this one too! I make Stars Wars books for children in affiliation with Lucasfilm/Disney and I LOVE STAR WARS! ❀️ Send link, Sask! x

They have 3 runs, a may the fourth run, a Jedi academy run and the revenge of the sixth run. I was drawn to the bling for the sixth so signed up for that one. It is tempting to do them all, but I don't know my work schedule yet so should be responsible and limit myself to the one.

BTW, you're job sounds awesome!

We're hoping to see the film next weekend. We saw the last one on the first week it opened and it was crazy trying to find seats together. I'm hoping the second weekend, especially being Christmas weekend, won't be as chaotic (ya, right. Who am I kidding?!? It'll still be a gong show but will be so worth it!)

That is a lovely medal! I am all signed up now. πŸ˜€πŸƒβ€β™€οΈThank you for the heads up, Sask dearest.

I am going to see The Last Jedi next weekend too - cannot wait! We did make some beautiful books about the movie, too. I am a very lucky gal and love my job.

May the Force be with you, SaskAlliecat. πŸ˜€

What a job!!! If only! Lucky you.

I saw Star Wars last night and it all ends with a big.......... aw, would I ruin it for you both?!!

Sigh, gonna have to sign up for this one now! Already on for the Dr Who one, for my husband and daughter who will fight over that and Star wars I am sure! Developing a serious bling habit...

I've never seen Star Wars :(

But, I have worked with Darth Vader ...honestly...

...well, with Dave Prowse, the guy who played him, back when he was Green Cross Code Man. Showing my age there.

Anyway, sounds great fun so enjoy!

WHAT?! How can that be possible?! πŸ˜€

Really nice bloke. Back at the tail end of the Seventies I was involved in a road safety campaign and he was heading it up for us. He was very serious about his work as Green Cross Code Man. Really big chap! Broad Bristol accent too...which I believe is why his voice wasn't used in the films he was in. An honour to have worked with him.

I bet! I had to google Green Code Man. Looks like it was a good campaign in the 70's/80's. I found it interesting that in 2014, they reinstated the campaign directed at adults though, walking with their noses in their phones πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

Wow. You're missing out. We tend to watch a marathon of them every Christmas break since I give my son the Star Wars Lego Advent calendar every December and it refuels our passion for the movies. Now this year we also get the new release. Yippee!

Jump on the band wagon, join us ....you know you want to 😁

Ooh I nearly fell over with excitement over this post - I am running the Dr. Who race in March too! It's in aid of the National Autism Society which is a fabulously worthy cause - and the very lovely bit of bling is going to go straight to the little boy I will have in mind when I run the race, who will definitely love it. So glad you will be doing it too!

So now I have to look into the Star Wars runs too ;)

Yay! We will have to "virtually" run this together, Helene! It is a great cause. x

Ha. I'm sure he'll take you up on that. Happy running.

I can only hope. He did the kids fun run at the Beaver Flat Fifty but getting him to train was like pulling teeth. It was only 1 or so k so I wasn't too worried, but he'll have to actually train for the 5k. We could walk/run it though, to keep it enjoyable for him if needed. It could be a fun Mom & son bonding (or fighting πŸ™„πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ) experience

Thanks for info and the link Sask I like the look of the Jedi academy one.... I was going to look into the virtual running events for next year, this sounds like fun and support charities as well as motivating me!😊xx

It really is a win win, isn't it? I'd love to participate in more organized runs but the travel and cost associated with hotels etc is not in the budget right now so this is a nice alternative. It is also nice to be able to choose when to do the actual run, especially this time of year. There won't be the other runners and crowds spurring you on but i do enjoy my lonely runs 😊. My son said he'll run this one with me so that should be an experience. I'm also doing a HM in March that will be all by myself and great motivation to keep up with regular runs.

I've signed up for the Jedi Academy Rebel Fun Run... planning doing 10k for it... I will start Ju Ju's build up plan again around March and do interval running for the shorter runs this time. In the meantime just running for fun any distance being good... :) xx

it will be great for you to have your son running with you...nice carrot ;)

May the force be with you both...

Yay, you Rebel you πŸ˜‰. That sounds like an great plan.

The force will be strong with many of us that weekend! Too fun!!!

Thanks. I fell asleep last night thinking about my training plan πŸ€“. I'm making my own following the structure of ju-ju's bridge to 10k. It got us to 10, I'm sure it will get me to 21.1 πŸ€—

That is some very cool bling! The jedi bling is quite nice too. I saw another one somewhere with a spinning Vader head. We are planning to see the film next week too. Can’t wait!

Bling, bling and more bling!!!! I love it! I wanted to sign up for all the Star Wars races, but that didn't seem reasonable. A spinning Darth Vader head would be sweet! When I showed my son the Death Star medal, his eyes lit up but I reminded him, i wouldn't give it to him unless he actually ran it with me (we can run/walk). He tells me he will so time will tell. He's been working out with his Dad most nights - he goes on the elliptical then does a few weights (very light weights) so the training already has technically started.

I'm counting down for when we go to the movies, but am not looking forward to the crowds. Fortunately I'm in a small city so they really aren't that ridiculous, but any line at all is annoying πŸ˜†. We used to live just outside Calgary so we're used to traffic, but now if we can't get through a traffic light on the first light we're upset. Yup, we're now spoiled 🀣🀣

Hmm, maybe thats how I can get my kids to run with me. As for the lines and crowds, I am with you. Not a fan of either. But it’s Star Wars and I’ve seen every one in the theatre since the first one, plus its family tradition now πŸ€“πŸ˜œ
