Wet wet wet

Decided to wait till Thursday for w8 r2 as I’ve a bit of a sore calf, to say I got wet is an understatement, the heavens opened , the wind howled, the earphones packed up and the sore calf got worse.

If you saw a fat middle aged chap running round Melton Mowbray looking wet and miserable that was me, feel no sympathy because I loved it.

Hot bath, G &T and a bite to eat and I was good as new. ( except the calf muscle which hurts like buggery.)

Well done for powering through. Not had to deal with a soaking yet, not looking forward to it either but I will think of your perseverance when it happens to me :)

Well done for determination in the face of the elements!

Sounds like you might need to let your calf heal up before you run again.

I have a sprained calf at the moment, so I am resting it, doing gentle stretching exercises, elevating the leg, applying heat.

I will start running cautiously when it feels better - not before.

... and if it twinges at all... rest more... with the exercises too!

Hi Oldfloss, just checking rolling technique - roll when my ankle is relaxed and toes "floppily pointed" so my calf muscles are relaxed??? I can see that would increase blood supply & massage the tissues. 😀

If you look online there are quite a few helpful videos...depending which type of roller you have?

Currently an old rolling pin (!!😂) which rolls without the handles having to - means I can roll it smoothly the whole length of the calf.- It is smooth wood and I have been keeping it on the radiator so it will be warm. You might be pleased to hear that I don't use it for pastry anymore! Calf pie takes on a whole new meaning! Those 2 clips are great thanks. 😃

Love it:

I used an apple to roll on the knotted muscle, the first time I had an issue, as I was away at the coast... My husband did eat it afterwards!!

Don’t worry about the calf muscle, self massage is the way then gentle stretching.

Thanks all for the encouragement though it’s very welcome. I run alone mostly as I work away a lot so all motivation is helpful.

Just bought a ridiculously expensive pair of running shoes so I guess that’s me committed .
