run 1 done! I must admit a couple of things, I didn't wake at 6am and run, well I did wake at 6am but didn't start until 720 =) and I only managed 6 of the 8 as the arches of my feet, or lack of it on the left foot (flat foot) were psychologically battling with me and won. I would say it was a mixture of weight versus flat foot versus being inactive for a while so I'm sure this will improve. I didn't stop moving until the whole 30mins was over I just couldn't run anymore due to feet. Wasn't too cold either and looking forward to next one and seeing results in time =)

Well done Chunky. Great start. Have you got decent shoes? Probably worth investing if you can. Go to an independent running shop for gait analysis and recommendation.
Morning and thanks Helen. I have some karrimor ones that took my flat foot into account but I'm not certain that they're any more than just a sports direct fad. Where's a good place to start do you think?
Not Sports Direct (not least because of their employment practices)! Do you have an independent running shop in your town? They will take the time and have the knowledge to recommend a shoe and insole to suit.

Helen beat me to it. They will get you the right shoes for your foot shape, arch height and so on. Sounds like you might need shoes with cushioning and support. And well done for the run: I totally mean that. i repeated week one because of interruptions and finding it hard. It will never be this hard again, at least not from the standpoint of someone who has just completed week 5.
Morning 😀 at least uve made the effort to start . It will get easier Im also a chunky butt but I managed to graduate and am currently running 3 times a week . Not an ounce lost but running and feeling better . Try the recommendation of a gait analysis if really will make a difference. Good luck for run 2 x
I would second the advice about shoes and having a gait analysis done. Sports Direct unfortunately only train their staff to push the Karrimor range (their own brand) with precious little knowledge of running at all. That said, I have had two pairs of their trail shoes which are cheap and comfortable though not particularly durable. Independent shops are your best bet.
If you don't complete a workout then have a rest day and then have another go. When you complete it move on, keeping the momentum. Each run is training for the next one, even the repeats. slowly your body will respond and you will notice improvements in recovery time remarkably quickly.
Really, really well done for getting out there... you’ve overcome the tallest hurdle.
Definitely follow the advice regarding gait analysis and footwear, it will make all the difference.
Take time to hang around on here and read the posts and comments. The most inspirational, supportive bunch you’ll ever find. Without these guys I’d have hung my tights up in week 5..!!
Trust in the programme, believe in yourself, take it really slowly (if in doubt, make like me and SLOTH it) and you’ll not go far wrong.
Good luck on your journey and keep posting - we are with you all the way..!! 🤗
Welcome to the best club in the world and well done you for starting. Everyone has given advice about shoes they do make a difference. I started in normal trainers and couldn't believe the difference proper running shoes (after gait analysis) can make. Keep up the good work and keep us posted 👍
Bravo! You got out there and you kept moving *and* you did 50% more than I did the first time out. I reckon you have a jolly good chance of doing all 8 runs next time... you've done the right thing in my view doing it that way as you build up from a definite marker.
Good for you, Chunky. I really struggled with the first runs and had to keep repeating them (I thought I’d never get past wk2) because of painful swollen feet and ankles. I had my gait analysed (apparently I over-pronate!) and bought proper running shoes. After that investment I was even more determined to stick at it. Then something happened in wk3 and I’ve not looked back since. In hindsight I hadn’t run since school (ahem, 40+ years ago) and it took several weeks for my body to adapt to the impact of running. Do take the advice of everyone here and if you can invest in properly fitted running shoes. I ran wk9r1 today; my first nonstop 30 mins - so if this old bird can do it you can too!
