First “Lone” Run

This evening I completed my first post graduation run so was without my running buddy Sarah Millican. I wasn’t sure how it would go without her but I managed to run “on my own” for 30 mins. I’m so happy that I can still run the same amount of time without her encouraging voice in my ear.

Yay - I really know I’m a runner now 😉

Thanks. It is strange without your trainer in your ear. I also felt “free” in the fact that I didn’t have to run the full 30 mins if I didn’t want to which is madness really but that’s how I felt. However, I still stuck with the 30 mins as once you have reached that goal why would you not keep to it. It was just my brain trying to put me off again lol

Its funny isn't it. When I did the programme, 'Laura' was the lady with the voice but I never once heard it, I just wrote down each week what was required and hubs programmed it into a big chunky Garmin watch that he no longer used so I went by that. I never got used to running with music either so it's always just been me and the voices in my head!!! Well done on going solo ... here's to continued outings :-)

Wow, I couldn’t run without music/audio book etc. as the voices in my head would win and I wouldn’t even start to run 😂🤣

Thanks for your good wishes - onwards and upwards. 🏃🏻‍♀️😊🏃🏻‍♀️

Congratulations! I've done 3 post graduation runs now, but need the support so used the stepping stones podcast.

I think it’s a personal thing and to be honest whatever keeps you running is fantastic. I’ll probably start to use the stepping stones podcast in the next few weeks as I think it will be the best way for me to move on from C25K. I’ve already downloaded it - I just wanted to see if I could cope without my trainer 😊

How are you finding Stepping Stones?

I liked the encouragement but found the cadence really slow for me which was actually quite hard! I naturally run around 160. (I'm small!)

Oh that’s interesting. I’ll give it a go at some point and see how I get on. I’m tall and run very slowly so it may work for me fingers crossed 😊

I too had my first ‘post graduation’ run this week but used the last run coaching again.... I find it useful for the timings and encouragement from Ms Millican. If anyone knows an app that could similarly count time intervals for 30 mins I would be grateful!

If using the coaching again makes it easier for you and keeps you running that is great. I run on a treadmill so am aware of timing, pace, distance etc. at all times (although that can actually be a hindrance at times lol)

Have you looked at the Stepping Stones app which moves you on from C25K?

Hi Gaspode1, thanks for the suggestion, I will take a look. Today I used the Runtastic app (free version) which tracks your route and gives some stats at the end. No timing beyond 2k but I was surprised to find I ran OK!

The fact that you are running is the main thing 😊 There are lots of other suggestions on the forum regarding follow-on apps etc. Good luck with finding one that is right for you 😊
