Well, today I could cry... I am SO happy and pleased with myself! At 59 (and fast approaching the next milestone), having never ran in my entire life and I did quite like my couch, I AM NOW A RUNNER. I have just completed the first 20 minute, non stop run of my life and it was fantastic!! This fabulous couch to 5k app with the lovely Jo Whiley, the BBC program "how to stay young", which scared the living daylights out of me, have brought me to this point and I have to say I am loving it more and more. Its not been easy and I repeated week 1 x 3 times and week 4 run 3 x 4 times but I got there. I took it slow and steady and well, I am just very very chuffed. Onwards we go...

Wow so well done. You have just given me a huge boost of inspiration to keep going nice & steady. Like you I have never been a runner and fast approaching my 57th. I’m halfway through week 3 and just had a sneaky peak at week 4 - 😱 It’s going to be tough. 😊

I suspect like me when you started this you didn't think you would be able to achieve what you have now... I am shocked at myself!! Keep at it though and don't be put off by whats ahead as when it comes to it you if we have followed the app we are actually prepared (although don't realise it) and nice and steady truly is the key for me :)

Well done! You can do this! Xx

The human body is a marvel. The only thing that stops us from being able to run, is our long-held belief that we can't. Thats why when faced with W5R3 many of us question the logic of the programme. You CAN do it, you ARE doing it. Well done

Well done. You can do this! Week one nearly killed me, and every 60 seconds was so long, yet I'm now on W8R3 and loving every second of it. Keep going.

Yes, Bobdbob week 1 was a painful week for me too but as the app says you are prepared for the next stage even if you dont realise it yourself. thanks for the support and well done you too!!

Woohoo! Go Deb 💪🏃‍♀️👍✔️

I am 59 going on 60, started Couch a few years ago and have been running since. Let it get to be a habit! It’s a good one!

Thanks misswobble. I have to say the first few weeks were a bit of a chore BUT I seem to have gotten over that feeling of doom and look forward to the next step of the app now because of the good feeling afterwards. I have good intentions to continue :)

Thank you. I thought that I might be one of just a few older 'girls' on here but it seems there are a lot of us 'mature ladies' Fabulous and thanks for the encouragement :)

What an inspiration you are, fantastic! running for 20 minutes is a great achievement 😊 That BBC programme was an eye opener, I wonder if it is still available? I would like to watch it again.

Thanks you skyesue 16. I have to say that the BBC program really did make me sit up and think. Made us (my husband has also been doing the app with me and is doing great) really think about the future and our health. You might be able to get it on iplayer or maybe youtube? I was so inspired by the guy who visibly transformed before our very eyes with his running and fitness achievements. Maybe I should thank him personally!! Thanks again for your encouragement :)

Congratulations!!! Very well done! completed W 5 R 3 yesterday and I’m also 59 so I’m over the moon too! I thought when I started that I wouldn’t get this far as I was too old and stiffening up but how wrong was I! Ive bought some trendy running gear and I’m now actually looking forward completing the programme and plan to run at least three times a week in the future, fingers crossed!

Oh wow! Congratulations to you too Mazzy 106!! We are almost twins ;)

Like you I was apprehensive about being able to continue after week 1, 2 or 3 but now I have got this far and am ENJOYING it I am inspired to complete the program and continue after too. It is so beneficial for our overall health especially our bones and makes me feel good too. I shall follow you if you don't mind so I can see us reach graduation roughly the same time!!

Oh please do! Let’s follow one another! It’s W6 R1 tomorrow for me...I’m a bit apprehensive to be honest as my back is playing up a little today but I’ll be out there in my fuchsia pink tomorrow giving it my best! Good luck for you’re next run and don’t forget the mantra ‘slow and steady’ it really works for me!
