To run or not run with a cold?

I can't believe I'm posting this question because 6 weeks ago I would have just curled up under the duvet, with a Lemsip and a good book!!!

So, should I run with a cold, dry cough and a bit of a thumping head? Advice please.

from what i can remember if it is a head cold or sore throat then you shouldn't have too many issue with going for a run and it may help, if it is a chest problem then this can and might have an impact on the training and it is best to rest, don't quote me i'm only quoting something i read ages ago but i usually stuck to that and i am still wombling along fine :)

Thanks you, womblejogger. I think I may just give it a try ...although I hate the idea of maybe having to stop. Hark at me! This running thing has alot to answer for !

go out and try ... listen to your body during the run, if you find you r suffering or not coping with the cold, run walk more if it's really bad than stop at least you had tried :D

Yes, I've read the same advice as womblejogger. However, last month I went for a run as I was recovering from a cold and within two hours I was really ill again. While chatting about it with my chiropracter, who is also a runner, she advised me not to run till I was completely better, to let my immune system build up.

I've just posted on the site as well this morning to ask advice on getting repeated colds while running.

Thank you, Limawhite. I'm just checking the weather too, as running in the rain might just be asking too much of myself and my immune system. There's always another day!

I personally would leave it if not 100% as I find running with a bad head is really not a good idea...I ran through a migraine a few weeks back and it knocked me for 6! Listen to your body, by all means give it a try but if it feels like hard work then turn around and go for the book!! 😜

I think go for it, I ran with a cold - found it quite difficult to blow my nose while running but I'm sure I got over it quicker by sweating (and snotting it out) if you feel you can, defo go for it! Make sure you have something warm to put on for your cool down though! Good luck 😉
