Milestone birthdays have a lot to answer for! Sixty last January and determined to go into old age as healthily as possible. I donated a kidney to my husband 3 days after my birthday and now completely recovered. I practice yoga but although it helps with strength and flexibility it doesnt do much for stamina and endurance.
I'm on W3 r1 and haven't done any running since PE at school. In fact the only exercise I do now is walking my collie Jack. I'm not finding it easy but I am determined to finish this challenge. All the posts I've read so far are a great inspiration. Thank you.
Anyone got any advice on running shoes??

Welcome.... what a journey already.. you are going to find a lot of support here.. We already have inspirational runners who have done the same amazing thing that you did for your husband
You are well on the way... and as for shoes... the main message you will get is to go for gait analysis at a designated running gear shop. Because we are all different we have our own preferences and they would not necessarily be right for you.
Just get the best you can,, they are, next to you the most valuable piece of equipment.. and need not cost the earth.. last year's model or unpopular colours( usually very funky..which I love) often come cheaper
Absolutely agree on getting a larger size. I didn’t know that when I started and had a lot of pain half way through the programme. I think it was because my toes were squashed and that in turn meant the tendons and ligaments in my foot could not move properly. Once better I found a good local shop that specialised in running shoes and did a gait analysis on my slow jogging. Also make sure socks are not too tight.
Just back from my local running shop and the lovely lad there re-iterated all that everyone else has said. He had me on a treadmill and recommended some shoes with special support and a whole should size up to my current ones. Graduation here I come!! (Hopefully)
Welcome, well done on journey so far, Just follow the programme and you will do it. I did week 6 run 2 today and although I had never run before I love it. I'm not fast but the feeling I get from a run is indescribable. Keep going and keep posting. All the advise from graduates and mentors and fellow runners is fabulous
You've had plenty of advice from other people but I just wanted to assure you that I know you can definitely do this. I'm 60 and completed C25k just before my birthday in May. I now run 3 times a week and am gradually increasing my distance.
So from one 'mature' runner to another ... Go For It!
Keep smiling, keep running and keep posting. Good Luck!
