Hello, I graduated some 2 years ago and unfortunately didn’t keep up with the running. I’ve started back on the programme and have finished week 2.

I feel disappointed that I let my self down and hope to do better this time around.

This forum really helped me the first time around and so I’m sure it’ll inspire me again.

My question is that is it ok to go for a run every day? With a rest day after every 3 to 4 days?

Thanks

You can but I would advise against it. The day in between runs is really important as it allows healing of the muscles caused by the runs. You will find it really hard without and it may cause you to give up. Every now and again I will run 2 or 3 days without a gap in between, but wouldn’t advise it every week unless you are a seasoned runner. Good luck x

Welcome to the forum and well done

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

When you run, the impact creates microtears in your muscles, which repair and strengthen on your rest days, not while running. Without rest, repair and strengthening are compromised and injury risk increased.

It is not recommended that new runners run every day until they have many months of regular running on their legs. In my opinion the longer you leave consecutive day running, the less likely you are to get injured.

If you want to be the best runner that you can be, then you are better off doing non impact cross training on your rest days than running every day.

Enjoy your journey.

General advice no. You need rest days to repair muscles. Running is hard on muscles, no matter how short the distances. Better to have extra rest days and avoid injury. Happy running

I second the extra rest days. I run Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday and those two rest days (Friday and Saturday) really help recovery ready for the following weeks programme which is of course stepping up a gear each time.

Thank you all. I will take your advice on board and run every other day. 😊
