Family 5k Poppy Run

β€’13 Replies

So today was poppy runday! We have been looking forward to poppy run for some weeks with t shirts arriving on Wednesday. We took a nice wander up to the common and found the route to be the last parkrun route that we ran. Did the loo run and the warm up then off to the start line. In fact we were in the front of the first wave, quite by accident! After the countdown we were off, slow and steady. The first 0.5 mile was the usual omg what am I doing and then we were in a nice pace going with the slowest child. Up and round the hill with small but steady steps all the way to the top followed by the fun downhill stretch. Then along the flat section before doing the second loop. I had hubs waiting halfway up the hill to take our son who has only run 2 miles so far. He continued to walk/run with dad whilst I and the girls ran on down the hill and round towards the finish. Both girls found the extra energy for a superb sprint finish with me keeping with them (such a great feeling to stretch those legs out). Once we collected our medals we walked back up the route to join hubs and son. They were on the home straight and son wanted to run. So with dad unable to run from a knee injury, I took son and ran with him down the final stretch with another super sprint finish. So that was 5k poppy run done with two sprint finishes for me lol.

Absolutely brilliant H, a truly inspirational family! Such a lovely photo too!

No organised run near me so I shall be running my Poppy run on 11th at parkrun πŸƒπŸ»πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ

I would do a virtual run if it wasn't local but it is a 15 minute walk away so rude not to participate lol. Enjoy your poppy run on the 11th. Hubs was doing a remembrance 10k locally on the 11th but cannot run due to patella tendinosis. He cancelled before suggesting that I do it instead, oh well parkrun for me!

What a wonderful family affair πŸ’•. I love seeing stories like this. I wish my son would run with me....maybe someday.....

I was surprised my trio wanted to run with me but hey I am more than happy to take them! They all run parkrun, junior parkrun and school cross country at the moment. One proud mum.

Wonderful - and what a fabulous photo of you all! I’m looking forward to my Poppy Run next weekend but I’m not sure I’ll manage one sprint finish, let alone two! (I really only have one pace setting, which is just-fast-enough-to-call-it-running!)

You see last year it was held the first weekend in November, I was surprised that it was October still this year. It was fun and challenging with the pace differences between the trio. I enjoyed the sprinting, feeling those knees rising the the arms pumping (with water bottle in each hand lol) but I probably only looked like snail on speed! Enjoy your poppy run, such a great cause.

Wonderful well done all of you. I did the Milton Keynes one today. Fabulous cause. Love the fact you have your children participating in a healthy hobby too. Only wish I'd started earlier.
