So, I woke this morning raring to go and even though everybody says that we need to take the rest day between runs I really wanted to run, so I did. I even upped the last of the 90 secs runs to 3 minutes just to see if week 3 was going to be achievable next week. Did it ok but will definitely be having the rest day tomorrow.
Week 2 done, gettinthere.: So, I woke this... - Couch to 5K

Thank you so much for this article. I will definitely take it all on board and follow the program from now on, I suspect after reading the article that I was falling into the classic trap of thinking that I was ready when I should have been giving my body chance to catch up with my lungs etc. No fool like an old fool eh. Thanks again
Oh it's an easy trap ... how are we supposed to know how our bones are doing, or our tendons, until something goes wrong... Luckily other people have worked out the C25K plan for us! Sometimes I feel it's good for building our discipline too, though admittedly it's usually the other way round, making sure I go for the runs >_<
Yeo that's a good read icklegui and really enforces the need for rest days
Dpsl and rolysmate, l found it on here, somewhere!
We definitely can't see what's happening in our bones and tendons. I used to work on bone mechanisms - it's fascinating!
Great article, I want to get to the end injury free and this article explains the bio mechanics so well. Thanks I will continue as a tortoise and be happy that my body is working little miracles every day
Please be careful mate. The rest days are there to give you time to repair between runs. It becomes a bigger deal as you progress in distance. An injury could put you out for months.
Well done but as others have said heed the advice and take it slow and steady to the podium π
Good for a run... Bad for running on a rest day.. it is not how you feel..it is the hidden damage that you cannot see..micro tears are vile.. a real muscle tear even worse... don't do it again..lesson over
Swim, cycle, climb, walk, Yoga. workout in the garden... anything but run
Rest days between runs are a crucial part of the plan and remain so for most runners after graduation, simply because injury is no fun. Four years after graduation, I can count the number of times I have run on consecutive days on one hand, and even then a hard run is never followed by a hard run. At this stage, even if you brought reasonable fitness to the plan, your body is being stressed quite severely, so the rest days are as important as the run days, that is when repairing and strengthening takes place.
Full marks for enthusiasm!!!
