This week has been utter madness. Conferences, courses, presenting to school governors... all sufficient to force a schedule shuffle.
I completed run 2 on Wednesday. And discovered how easy it is to stop running. I just fell out of my rhythm somehow - maybe my mind drifted a little too far. And I found myself walking. I gave myself a rapid talking to and got back to running - all in all, only about 10 paces lost. So I’m counting it a success. Proud that I was able to get going again, even well into the run.
I was due to complete run 3 on Friday night, but by the time I got to Friday night, it just wasn’t happening. So I got up and did it this morning. Had a few pieces of dried fruit for a boost before I set off (so I could have a decent breakfast afterwards).
It’s been an odd morning for weather - bright sun one minute, strong winds and rain the next. It was the same through my run.
Chatted to a friend who is a much more accomplished runner earlier this week, and we talked about our “Everest”. It’s only a slight incline about 1.5km from my house - you wouldn’t notice it in a car, but it carries on for long enough that you think you’re done... just as it levels off, and you settle back into a rhythm, there’s a railway bridge to climb. It made a big difference to me that a more accomplished runner found the same thing challenging! Thought about that as I climbed this morning - and felt better knowing it’s not just my lack of fitness (which is obviously enormously better than it was 8 weeks ago)!
So, onward to week 9!
